I love vinyl.
It stems from when I was a boombap beatjunkie and still had dreams of competing in the "I can dig deeper than thou" stakes.
Since then I've been warming up to cd's (no pun intended) while my interest in different genres grew.
Libraries are a great way of exploring unknown but not-so-new music. Libraries = mostly cd's. But cd's are the tapes of the 9ties, to me. They're great to have littered around the room, and you can personalize them, although I don't "paint" on my cd's the way I decorated my tapes.
So obviously I have mixed feelings towards mp3s. It's great that this way of distribution is out there, but Ill never be able to shell out 16 $ for a zip file.
Does your favourite music get cut on vinyl?
How do people here buy actual records? I know there are a few vinyl afficionados.
Is it even possible to find electronic music Lps?
Here in Ghent the best record store ever has called it a day.
So, I'd rather buy music in a real store than online, but if need be...
Turntablelab has a nice selection of downtempo and electronica, but I avoid shipping from overseas like the plague.
Anyone know of some great shop on the european mainland that ships international?
Help me out! :-)

I love vinyl too!!!!
I also shop locally, but I buy from labels directly if my shops don't have what I want.
Unfortunately in the past when I had $, I've had to use ebay to get some oldies and rare records
I can't afford to press records anymore, cause they're not selling as well anymore. I've had an idea to do one more vinyl release if I can get the funds together, but until then I'm going all free mp3s for my small label's releases ...

anyone have any other recommendations for good US online record shops? my vinyl consumption has grown considerably in the last year, mainly due to working at a record store and having inherited a very nice turntable from an uncle. unfortunately my store has very little in the way of modern electronic music, though i have been fortunate enough to nab some morton subotnick LPs

Dustygroove.com is my favorite online retailer! i dunno what they are gonna have in the way of electronic music, but they thrive on having a strange, rare stuff.

An em411 alum works at the dusty groove store in Chicago.... cameron... I can't remember what his em411 name was. djugle, do you remember?
There is a place called Hymie's in Minneapolis that I love. It's only vintage records...so nothing newer than maybe '90 and it is a treasure trove. Dave, if you ever happen to be in Minnesota, I'm taking you there.

And I am so there!
I had a cousin that lived in minnesota, but now he's running from the fbi and leading whitewater rafting trips in CO under a fake name.
