after never touching my PC for anything but audio i decided today would be a good day to load an RTA app from allen and heath and do some tests in my studio as i think i have some low end/mid range issues and i need to resolve them.. if they exist. i found the allen and heath app after googling. 14 day trial.. should be all i ineed.
i install all seems well. however i can't seem to configure it to use my sound card as an input source instead of the crappy on board laptop mic. bummer. i uninstall it after deciding to find another way.
reboot my PC and now the whole thing is FUCKED. none of my apps will recognize ANY ASIO drivers. lol. great. i uninstall and reinstall latest drivers for my echo indigo and RME multiface. both cards i've had for a really really long time and never had any issue with. the RME has been especially un-fuckable and rock solid.
after doing everything short of a windows re-install i'm left w/a compy that hates all things asio and won't even access soundcards via the crappy direct sound drivers. boo fucking hoo.
what now? i already had the "safe mode" restart after a reboot and went thru that jibba jabba w/no luck. seems my ownly option is wiping this things drive and starting over. i guess it has been a few years since i've gone thru that but i was hoping to never do that again as windows OS installs are retarded and installing software on windows is equally retarded. i was hoping that by the time this laptop started to crap out that audiomulch would be OSX friendly and i could let this thing die while enroute to the apple store to buy a macbook.
whine whine whine. poor me and my "in 2.5 years of use i've never gioven you a problem until now" windows laptop.
so, don't install stupid little apps on your windows machine because it will fuck you up. fucking windows. fucking love hate audiomulch relationship.
if shakespeare were alive today he'd write a blog about tragic computer relationships.
rant over.

lol. this thing has never been connected to the internet. i register/upgrade apps using a SD card reader. seems there's no escaping windows malestation. poisons travel thru the ether and invade the BIOS or registry or something. someday this laptop will make a nice word processor except the keyboard is crap! hmmm.. perhaps a tax deductible donation in a few years? "yes Mr. IRS man.. the laptop was cutting edge.. worth at least $5000"
where's that windows install disc? and my whiskey...

window+whiskey... hahaha! sounds familiar!
also, the only way i've kept my XP PC running smoothly is to reformat and flat reinstall everything.
after about 8 months, no matter how many times i defrag or scandisc is gets glitchy/buggy, fukt.
I'm glad i'm not the only one who has offline pc that still has oozing problems. feel less alone.
i did use my last existing wireless to install a wireless router (easier than linux install) and now our household has 6 computers online,
including two nix on mac and a winxp box. wireless. interconnected OS - its need a geeky pipe dream anymore.
for some people, that makes me late to the game, but I got really excited yesterday when i got it all working and thought i'd share.
The PC is no longer necessary. everything else runs independently and file sharing amongst OSes is helping me understand how to design stuff more better. cool stuff.

You should test things out with virtual PC or similar...
or just have an image of your setup, so you can just re-image the hard drive when something turns your comp to lead. No installs!

I do not understand why anyone who has used Microsoft products for more than one year doesn't have an image backup program with all their clean install OS partitions backed up to DVDR. First sign of trouble, and fuck it, overwrite it, don't even bother troubleshooting.
Keep all your data on a different partition than your OS and programs, backup to image after a clean install and never worry about that bullshit ever again.

I tend to format and reinstall XP once every 6-9 months if it needs it or not. Wait...it always needs it.

I finally gave up on PCs because Windows dirties up ruthlessly and I'm sick of trying to clean it out--I spent more time troubleshooting / cleaning than I did using the fucker.
Macs are hardly perfect, but I'm much happier since moving back over to them.

Maybe it is a registry problem? Here's another program you can add to the mix...
Tweaknow... it's a reg cleaner. I'm not talking about nipples.
