so, i am playing my first proper solo live gig on friday night...at mignight...in a venue called blueprint in nottingham (NG7). i have practiced pretty hard and i know my set and kit pretty well. i am still a bit scared, as my set leaves a lot to chance, and i am a natural stresshead...but i hope it will be cool.

based on the responses from when i posted Scared Sam - link - i am going to have a couple of beers...but I am known for drinking too much, so i'd better not overdo it...

i have had a very hard week at work, and my set does require me to be a bit switched on, so hopefully i wont fall asleep or have a heart attack or anything.

have any of your seasoned veterans got any last minute tips?

p.s. i am doubly shitting it about STFU. that will be my second gig - aha! I always reckon it's best to jump in at the deep end...

Cool man, good for you. Wish I could see it.

cheers dude. I wish you could see it too...i suspect you'd like my cb mic and my bent furby if i get my shit together i'll record it and put it on my site...but i'll probably fuck something up and end up with no record of it...hehe.

i dont know about your first gig but stfu edinburgh will be fuckin sound- youll have a right buzz

ive played tons of shows, but only about 4 solo... each time i didnt even think about the audience and if they were enjoying it or not. i was just trying to make the best set i could. i never drink or take drugs before a show, thy'd just mess me up. but i like to be fully alert when stuff happens... since my gear is prone to break.

i say try not to dwell on the audience too much,... if they arent digging it, they arent digging it... but if you happen to notice people loving it, thats always a confidence boost. just give it what you can and it should work out great and dont worry aobut shit going wrong... until it does and if it does.

yeah, i reckon you're right bla. i am really looking forward to STFU! looking forward to sharing a beer or 20 with everyone, and then (hopefully) enjoying my set...

loud the audience with friends and have fun!

sage words psyingo. thanks. my set is prone to go wrong due to kit fuck ups and me fucking up, as it's pretty heavily improvised. i dig about essentially ignoring the audience...ultimately, i am growing to like my set, so i will just go for it and if other people like it, great.

mlbot: the audience will contain lots of good friends. and my weekend will be spent with a great friend of mine, who i hardly ever see, so either way, i will have a top weekend - yeeha!
my set is almost all improv too. shit naturaly goes wrong with that kind of stuff, especialy electronic. but i shrug it off and keep going. most of the time people will forget it happened unless its non-stop fuckups which is pretty hard.

sounds to me like you've got it all under control.

Just do a soundcheck beforhand... bring some extra cables (the club may only accept XLR, Phono or maybe even rca inputs... you never know). Bring a flashlight and maybe some duct tape.

You've got lotsa practice, lotsa friends to start everyone clapping inbetween songs.... don't sweat the small stuff, and have fun!

cableage is key.

Good luck man.
Keep that drink balance at the optimal level, somewhere between relaxed and sloppy... and picture everyone in the audience naked, and fat, and ugly, and sweaty, and stupid (stupid enough that they couldn't possibly notice any mistakes you may make)... you'll do fine.

also try to remember, when you're done, you'll realize it wasn't as big of a deal as u thought.. also, i'm with psy on this one, if this is your first gig, dn't worry about the audience. just focus on doing yer shite as good as possible.

as i have come to expect from people on here, sage words! thanks. right now i feel ready to rock!!!! i guess we'll see how it goes. one thing is for sure, come saturday morning it will all be over, one way or the other big ups!

(interested to know more about your setup / show psy...)

Good luck! have a great time! Don't worry too much! My first gig I was upset and thought I did a shitty job, so I think I was being an asshole (more than usual, ahem) and I regret that. I shoulda just rolled with it and pretended I did great!
