um, ello.
so, i am playing my first proper solo live gig on friday night...at mignight...in a venue called blueprint in nottingham (NG7). i have practiced pretty hard and i know my set and kit pretty well. i am still a bit scared, as my set leaves a lot to chance, and i am a natural stresshead...but i hope it will be cool.
based on the responses from when i posted Scared Sam - link - i am going to have a couple of beers...but I am known for drinking too much, so i'd better not overdo it...
i have had a very hard week at work, and my set does require me to be a bit switched on, so hopefully i wont fall asleep or have a heart attack or anything.
have any of your seasoned veterans got any last minute tips?
p.s. i am doubly shitting it about STFU. that will be my second gig - aha! I always reckon it's best to jump in at the deep end...

my first one was baaad. I plugged all my gear into my mixer, and connected my mixer to the house mixer, but i forgot to pan the channels hard left and right. So when I started the show I couldnt figure out why it wasnt sounding the way it should. I got more and more stressed and checked and rechecked my mixer and couldnt figure it out. It sounded like absolute mud from behind the PA and got so stressed i couldn't really play or perform properly.
If you get the opportunity, do a soundcheck and stand both on front of the PA (in the audience) and on the stage, and try notice the differences. I'm planning on bringing some small speakers to set up just on front of me so I'm not totally relying on the PA system to hear myself. Other venues may have better monitoring facilities...
Stay relaxed, that comes out in the music (I'm going to do a real ambient set on friday, so I expect that relaxing on front of an audience is gonna be the hardest challenge. When I get on stage I will sit for a moment and look out at the audience and just take some deep breaths and get comfortable. I have an automated intro of two minutes so I can look around me and get comfortable being up there on stage as the music warms up. Hope this works

I am also bringing a bedside alarm clock (with big red LED numbers) to show me the current time. I need this to pace myself, otherwise I do everything too quickly

yeah man, good plan. i too am worried about sound checking. the venue is a bit cramped and i will kinda to one side of the speakers, so monitoring should be no problem but i might struggle with feedback through my mics...hehe. What time you on on friday dach? maybe we could think of each other...hehe.

all that anxiety you('ll) feel, SURF on it. Don't get caught up in, but rather ride it to your advantage. Use that natural energy to facilitate you being "switched on".
