I'm gonna be flying in to Portland to have a peek around- OCT 12-15. What should I see?
And whats this business about the shanghai tunnels? and Does the Tri-met run 24/7?
We're thinking about getting a week pass on the tri-met and just cruising around to see all the neighborhoods and maybe burbs, etc.
I want your ideas!

whoa the mystery hole looks great I wanna go see it

I'm sooper into indian food right now.

Tandoor (SW 4th & Oak)
Chaat House (SW 12th & Taylor) - pretty unique cause they do chaat, which is indian snack food, it's a lil lunch cart, but sweet.

Also:
Super cuban food (pambiche) NE 28th & Glisan - give me a call if you wanna go here, it's right by my house
Super Tapas @ Toro Bravo (130 NE Russell) - pricey but worth it

I wish the 24 hour church of elvis was still around.

Yeah, the Mystery Hole is probably my favorite place in Portland, or at least the one I tell people about when I talk about how cool/weird this place is. The guy who runs it is named Barron (just Barron, he legally removed his last name) and is just an awesome guy. He has a party every summer called a "Meteor Shower" (I suppose like "baby shower") during August when one can see meteors, and usually has a Zombie Croquet tournament, which is a game he invented. The rules are on the website for the MH I think. What's so cool is that he has this big accountant's ledger that he keeps meticulous records in, who scored points, who became a zombie, who ate who, etc. that date back to like 1984. See, that's dedication to being eccentric. That's what I love about this city, everyone seems to have their own project that they take seriously, something that brings a little spark of enjoyment.

if you're into British pubs, check out the Horse Brass, in SE on Belmont and about 45th... things will just keep popping into our heads the more time we have to stew over this.

I believe I already live in the 24/hr church of elvis,
And how about an em-meet @ the mystery hole? lololol
I am totally down with Indian food- my wife and I just ate at a place in Nashville we love, and they changed something and the food is now horrible. We are not so much into the fusion foods, cause thats what we eat at home. I want a for real, make-me-sweat- stinky-turmeric-sweat, no MSG indian meal.
Never had cuban food per se- but I'm game.
All we're really looking for is our nice little place in the sun(er, clouds?) to have a little house to put metal sculptures all over. The more of these people you guys show me, the more I think this is just that sort of place. The only thing I worry about is that we might feel... conservative? we're used to being the weirdos in town, I guess moving to portland makes us the little fish in a big pond, weirdo-wise.
Why don't we have an em-meet and take this tour?

Lol you get to drink and walk around with ghost-meters in the shanghai tunnels.
I hope I get to meet SOMEBODY, and you're not all out of town.

Oh yeah, African cuisine... Queen of Sheba on Martin Luthe r King blvd is a definite destination. It used to be cheap... back when they were a quickie-mart with a couple of tables in the back...

pambiche is good cuban food. it's the only place other than miami and NY that i've had good cuban food. the ropa vieja is awesome and their beans and rice are tasty.

oh, portland can always use more weirdos delta.

let me know what gets planned.. i'll be back in town sometime in the afternoon on the 13th.
lol. as if portland needs more good press.

Portland, Oregon

Affordable and accessible, this city straddling the banks of the Willamette River has long made sustainable living a priority. More than 30 years ago, with other cities in a freeway-building frenzy, Portland broke ranks and tore down a six-lane expressway to make room for a waterfront park. Since then the city has set an urban growth boundary to protect 25 million acres of forest and farmland, started a solid-waste program that recycles more than half of the city's trash and erected more than 50 public buildings that meet tough standards set by the United States Green Building Council. One of the most bike-friendly cities in the U.S., Portland's public transportation systems boasts a high rate of ridership. Add in one of the nation's largest city parks -- the aptly named Forest Park has 74 miles of running, biking and hiking trails -- and Portland's rep as the nation's greenest city makes sense.

Whenever someone I don't like wants to move to portland, I usually remind them that Tanya Harding was from here.
