--> Oh jesus, the label has got me into my very first festival. Thought I would announce it here as it's in Europe and I know many folks from Europe. If you can make it it would be so much fun to see you there...

I'll be playing at the Transmusicale festival in Rennes, France on December 6th, in the Parc Expo Hall 4. I have no idea, nor do I want to, how large a crowd there will be. Hopefully this will be one of the smaller exhibition spaces, because thoughts of this event fill me with nausea, shivers and also a solid dose of real excitement.

The fact of the matter is that I have only performed twice so far, so I will be working my ass off to find some gigs between now and then. I think I need at least 6 to feel comfortable doing this. Good grief!

Also, I am following a band called "The View" who sound to be a bit Punk. UGH! What were they thinking? So any ideas of what song I should start to follow this would be much appreciated, any of you who know my music. Or even just some abstract advice like... start with a really fast one, or do the opposite, start with your softest...

I'm going to try to get the time info from my manager and update this blog. Hope to see some of you there!

good skills!

Great news f-do !!

Looks like an amazing festival, wish I could go.

You'll do just fine, I know it

i'd say pay no attention to what the other acts sound like & don't worry about tailoring your set to fit anybody else's

you've got a very original vision & sound, and the people who are going to respond favourably to that are the people who want to see you being you regardless of your surroundings. it's like dating, but with multiple partners. just be yourself & you'll be fine.

btw, part of being an unknown act from another country means no one knows your history, so in that way it's like going away to college. even if everyone knows you're a dweeb in high school, by the time you travel 1000 miles to go to college you get to totally re-invent yourself. that's why college seems to be full of really interesting people, but truth be told most of them were losers in their hometown. not saying you're a loser, i'm just getting lost in my tangent.

what i mean to say is that you'll get there and this will be every body's first impression of you. walk in with the cool, confident air of a seasoned pro & in their eyes you will be.

sing in public every chance you can between now & then (go nuts on the karaoke circuit) and by the time you get there you'll do just fine.

congrats Fredo! I can only chime in with the crowd here. be yourself and you'll be fine.

make sure you wear your wizard hat with the birds nest!

tmns said: "that's one of the things i hate about gigging, you rarely get placed alongside bands you have anything in common with musically. you gotta just forget about it, do your thing and be confident in it."

Well, if its anything like Bumbershoot or somesuch, the audience will have done weeks of research and planned out their attack strategy, seeing person X, then running over to see Fredo, then scampering over to that stage to see Astroid and the Up-ettes... etc... etc..., rather than just parking themselves at one stage all day.

So I say: forget about who's going on before and after you, you are a leaf in the wind.

you're a pro fredo.

just find a cosy place backstage and warm up your voice, stay there and write a letter to the management complaining there is not enough chilled dom pèrignon and scruff yak butter around for your convenience (this could give you sort of rainbow press attention and create some gossip and thus a bit publicity, or it could ruin your reputation and make you look arrogant and demanding but the chances are even i think, people would remember the yak butter for longer anyway.) then stay sober the entire time. create an aura of mystery around you. wear a blackrobe robe and whisper only.

and when it's about time imagine yourself as a jet fighter pilot minutes before starting for a deadly combat mission, about to throw andvanced weaponery at targets deep into a country which's name no one can pronounce correctly, always only few steps away from beeing shot down. but you can not be shot down fredo, you can always grow. as an artist. as a person. heck think of hendrix before playing the national anthem at wodstock. an anthem for a revolutionized country. don't play anthems for your ego like so many successful artists (kayne..), play anthems for your audience!

they probably read something about you beeing a crossover between classical stuff (bartok) and massive attack. give them that and you'll be fine

if you need an ego boost to raise your confidence, spare a thought for all of us struggling to even get something done of release quality, let alone being booked for festivals and parties and such!
The View? punk? I certainly wouldn't call them punk from the few songs i've heard but they are definetly shit! shouldn't be too hard to follow ;)

Very cool news indeed
Congratz!!

Congrats Fredo! I'm sure you'll do fine. I think you don't give yourself enough credit... I watched the videos you made of your first performance a number of times even though I'd heard your song a million times already. Know why? 1)It's amazing to watch (and hear!) you sing 2)Your live arrangements with the musicians were a different enough take on your already strong material to be incredibly rewarding, even for the seasoned Fredo listener.

So, for those reasons I say "Do not fret, Fredo!"

Thanks for all your support, folks. And those of you that said you might make it, I am really looking forward to meeting you! Bodo, make sure to seek me out at the show if you do come.

Congrats man, that's really great news! I'll add my me toos and say don't worry about the other bands -- it can actually be fun playing for the totally wrong audience sometimes. Cedar played a show with some rock bands (well, most shows for us are like that...) a while back and the best moment was probably afterward overhearing someone say 'well at first i just thought it was weird, but then i kinda liked it.' You'll do great!

also, i second the wizard hat :p

Congrats on the festival!!! Maybe put up your own chicken-wire on stage in case the punks start throwing bottles.
