--> I recently found my FSOL - Dead Cities cassette (!!!) at my mom's house along with an old walkman that still worked. I got home, popped in the tape, hooked up my Sennheiser, and proceeded to listen. Originally I just wanted some sort of background music while I started re-reading The Silmarillion, but I could not continue reading. I had forgotten how incredible this record was. I mean I knew this record was incredible, but I'd stopped listening to it maybe 9 or 10 years ago. This is truly one of those records you have to listen from beginning to end, and as cliche as it may sound, it is a journey, dark, lush, exciting, insane, wow! It's the perfect balance between tribal ambient, techno, break beats, prog rock, with some weird chant and vocal samples and hints of classical.

Anyway, I'm in awe with this record and I just wanted to share it with u...

yeah your post is inspiring me to break that CD out again and check up on it.

Pretty dang classic

I picked it up again a year or so ago. Great stuff.. .. maybe a little too much pan flute .. but still good.

Oh no! Compared to the abuse pan flutes got from other ambient records of the era, I think this record is well pan-flute-balanced, LOL

Too bad all of their releases after this album were whiny, bad guitar-playing laden, feeble attempts at indie rock tripe.

goddam no-edit site. FWIW, I like their first album "Accelerator" and Mental Cube releases best, when they were less sample-laden and more beat oriented. However, I think Amorphous Androgynous works well as an album, as opposed to picking out individual tracks.

FSOL live sets ftp site. there must be a hundred or so...

i was listening to ISDN the other day. and i found we have explosive in the cut-out bin at a local shop for maybe two bucks, score!
Dead Cities was a perfect soundtrack to a drive I did last winter from California to Oregon. Rainbows, expansive dry fields with storm clouds on the horizon. Very enjoyable.

Oh wait, I think it was Lifeforms. Oops.

cascade still rocks: link

I still like the EP's best ... just like all my favorite artists..

Far our son of a lung..
Cascade..
etc..

Hellz yea!!
fsol lifeforms is still one of my favorite releases. amazing stuff

I agree. That album is fantastic.

"I killed a man, a man who looks like me."

fsol will always be an all time classic for me. I remember seeing their videos on mtv when I was about 13 or 14 and thinking their music was so wicked awesome. I have a copy of the lifeforms VHS tape. it rules. it has cascade on it and a ton of other crazy 3d animation stuff. I should really rip it to my computer some how.
