1. Work Hard- don't skimp, don't be lazy. If there's an idea that you've been wanting to try, do it.
2. Be as original as you can in everything you do.
3. Don't beat yourself up.
Everything else is details.

Rule # 104: If by some act of God you're ill-equipped to stand tall with "the greats", roll with the lightweights. Everybody finds support no matter what level they're at. There's an audience at every level.

Rule # 105: Regardless of circumstances, never allow yourself to lose your sense of humor. If you don't have a sense of humor, shelve all other activities until you've found it.

Rule # 3ve: If your music sucks, don't fret, simply send it to jdg for mastering. When you get it back you may just have a cd full of internet pr0n, but hey, at least it'll sound good on neutral speakers.

Rule # 106: After you've gained the means to independently support yourself, at 55 years old redefine what you've stood for in the past. Admit that your previous musical output was not the best and was not your best. Unleash the original sound that you've nurtured over the past 30 years in private and tell the world that it's the best work you've ever done. Do not feel bad if the work does not sell well. After all, to live and create you according to your own determination is the ultimate goal.

If you music is boring, go to art school and learn how to better describe the boredom in words.
