UPDATE: Portland Meetup Sunday

Roshi rightly suggested I post this to a new bloggy so folks don't miss it.
--> So for the Portland get together this weekend while deltasleep's in town, we're looking at meeting up at Vita on 32nd & Alberta, this Sunday evening (Oct 14) at 6ish. I'll send a quick note to everyone who posted too so we have an idea of how many folks we have. Roshi suggested this joint, so beat his ass if it sucks!

it freaked me out! he was talking to us one second then on the ground the next and pale as a ghost.
we were all just standing there and he was looking at his phone and saying he was gonna split as he suddenly felt sick in the stomach. he took two tiny steps and then fell right into me. if i was a second quicker i could've caught him but instead i only got a handful of his hoodie in each hand and tried to keep him from smacking his head. I heard the really loud POP too and tried to convince myself it was his bag hitting the sidewalk but i guess i knew it was probably his ankle or something because i can't get the POP sound out of my head. he was out for about 10-20 seconds and that was enough time for us to make sure he had a pulse, was breathing and move him into a more comfortable position since he had fallen right on his legs/feet. us geeks moved fast. i think mapmap called 911 before tantan even hit the floor.
when he woke up he said "oh, hi. what happened?" then all the color came back into his face and he made some joke. he made many jokes. i think the ones before he fell were better then the ones he made after he fell... but that's just my opinion.
for someone who broke his leg in two places he didn't seem to be in that much pain. or maybe he's one of those stoic types. i broke my ankle pretty badly when i was 13 and i was in agony and blacked out. tantan just said "my leg really hurts. ouch. yeah. it hurts pretty bad. ouch.'
i felt like a dope for not doing a better job of catching him but my swollen and bruised left pinky finger tells me i tried pretty hard (and that he's as fat as i am).
so....
dinner was good. it was good to see everyone (monkey+1 showed up!) and great to finally meet deltasleep. i hope you and victoria are having fun in portland. i'm sure that last night will at least be quite memorable.

the 911 operator kept asking me if he was a street person or looked like he was on drugs....

the first thing i did was check his pulse. seemed normal/strong/steady.
i've been freaked about it since it happened.
i feel so bad for the guy. i'm just glad he's in good hands and was alert and oriented when they hauled him off and that there was a bunch of us there to make phone calls and look after him. Jim almost jumped in the ambulance and road to the hospital w/him but then we realized none of us were relatives and could in no way make any kind of decisions for him etc and we had his wife in the loop.. i'm sure he'd much rather have her by his bedside than a bunch of glasses wearing music geeks.

he just called me back and gave me the scoop. leg broken in two places.. one by the ankle and one by the knee. full length cast. seems he had his foot placed just right or er.. wrong for this to happen. poor bugger. good news is he's otherwise okely dokely.
