so according to your link spark, dubstep is IDM/crunk/reggae? WAHSOME!>

+1 for the yawnz
Shackleton is really amazing though, even bought the (beautiful) Skull Disco T-shirt! Nice guy too, very relaxed.

Its all about Burial & Benga for me. Both of em consitently turn out dazzling records. Interestingly they sound *nothing* like each other, or anyone else, yet are still considered to be making 'dubstep' .. which says a great deal about how interesting it was when the scene first started.

Pretty much 99% of the rest are just copying each other., going nowhere.

rinse.fm is where you listen to it... plastician and skream both have shows... there are some other ones too, but I don't know who. Mostly they all play the same dubplates tho, so tuning in to either of those guys will hear you the new stuff.

yeah. this happened with jungle/dnb, garage, grime and dubstep scenes imo. exciting to begin with while the producers are figuring out what works and what doesnt, then once a few key records are made its all facsimile productions after that and the music stagnates...

wow i excpected to be flamed with this...

well, i'm just fed up with this stuff, i agree there are a few exceptions though, seems like there are some cool stuff on the latest boxcutter for example.

but laetly if you checkout a website like boomkat.com on a semi-regular basis, you come to realise how everything fits in little soundalike niches :
dubstep, dubby/minimal techno, hipster techno, droney stuff w or w/o guitars, post indie rock (a.k.a. wtf, do you really think singing off key makes you look cool ?) etc

i wouldn't be pissed at dubstep if everyone and their moma wasn't trying to get people to believe that this shit is awesome, and that it's the next big thing happening right now. I truely believe it's gimmicky and 90% of it is totally formulaic and boring, just a kind of new set of rules people stick to.

I really like Bass Clef, I don't understand the rest. Burial's production is great but the hype had me expecting something really exciting and unique and it's just not.

I was surprised that the new System e.p. "Tempo" is a bit dub step. I prefer straight up dub, but ya know, if you don't dig it you don't have to partake
oh that new Disrupt album "foundation bit" smokes, btw

hey disturb, it is possible to troll on em411, but generally you need to be a bit of an ass, otherwise people will assume that you want to get into an intelligent conversation... interesting place, this.

Singing off key like the fall or pavement is great. The deerhoof-y animal collective bits are a little iffy though. But i'm digging the new animal collective album. I think you're coming to appreciate what the internet has truly given us .... democratic sounds --- everywhere, all the time and derivative of something else, and infinitely reproducible, but only the best or the loudest will be remembered.

when i said singing off key i didn't mean anything pavement like.
pavement are awesome.

you know that dude's just aching to go all breakcore.

yes, hating is lame, but damn if that isn't the best title for a blog ever.
