I have been meaning to write a little blog about this band that I recently discovered. They are British, and are categorized as electronic folk. I hear both of those influences, but I would put them into the category of awesome. First of all, I totally love their orchestration, which usually consists of beautiful simple melodies sung by several people in unison, joined by lovely harmonies, several acoustic guitars at once, many an analog synth, and they really get those mamas to make some groovy sounds, lots of oddball handmade percussion (usually stomps and claps are a staple, as they are with me as well) and tons of masterful electronic fiddling.

My label succeeding in getting this band to make a remix of The Sad Song which I'm sooooo happy with. And I had a little correspondence with one of the band leaders, Mike Lindsay.

Anyway, Tunng just came to town and I was invited to watch the show, and it inspired the crap out of me! It's sort of exactly what I dreamed my own show could be like, with lots of syncopated stomping and clapping, and so much warmth and intensity. Parts of the show seemed like a ritual to Dionysus! Haha. Other parts were like a campfire song. It was just awesome.

Most interesting was it to me to hear how much was prerecorded as well! So it actually set my heart at ease a bit about my own upcoming shows during which a sizable chunk will be playing off my laptop.

Does anyone else here know and love Tunng?

Yes, that's one reason why I mentioned that they might be better experienced live, I agree that their album sounds a little on the small side. Some music is just made for live performance I guess. And they were so much fun live!

i know one of their records (can't remember the name right now) and found it pretty boring.
i might give it another chance.

again, maybe they are better live. Give them a chance if they come to your town.

definitely worth checking out live, there can be a world of difference.

For example, I used to be bored to tears by Pan(a)sonic, but then I saw them live and they rearranged my face with their awesomeness, and I became a die-hard fan. That was also the show that convinced me to start playing live.

Oh hey Fredo, PS, absolutely no intention to belittle your working with them, I think that is rad and I'm excited to hear the results!

I didn't work with them, per se, they just remixed Sad Song and it sounds really good. Thanks, tantan, it's cool.

yay. i am so glad that others love them like i do.
i was so excited to be asked to play with them. I love their video for woodcat (look it up on you tube... i am retarded at linking to you tube for some reason.)
heres a link to the show info!

yep. have some of their stuff. good indeed. nice to know they pull the material off good/better live too. hope to hear the remix some day fredo.

peace

Please send my regards to Mike. He has only met me once, so possibly won't remember but if you remind him about Sad Song he should. He seemed totally lovely.

tantan, that's funny because I've never had the chance to see Panasonic live, but they're one of my favorite bands. diff'rent strokes I guess.
I don't care for this type of music in general. sounds like that Ditech commercial I hate.

license--yeah, I have a tiny little narrow window of preference for recorded bands, but seeing someone in performance is a whole different way of understanding how the music is produced, and I'm somehow much more generous with my appreciation.

My girlfriend has a poster of them on her wall (and exceptional taste in music), but I've yet to hear them myself. Thanks for the reminder.
