--> A close friend of mine have severe G.A.S. and I don't know how to help him!? He just makes jokes when I try to talk to him about it. The other day he called me about an ad for an Akai S1000 keyboard version. Those of you old enough know that this thing is huge as a dinner table and that compared to almost any computer based sampler it's not that extraordinary. (It was excellent 15 years ago though)

My friend have been like this as long as I have known him (+10 years). I think he has owned (and sold of course) almost every electronic instrument known to man. Not a Roland system 100 but that is only because he never managed to save up enough money.

I don't need to comment on his chances of ever getting a GF or the fact that he hasn't made a song in more than five years.

It's so sad and I feel sorry for him...

Yeah I admit I currently have GAS, but the shit I buy costs me $2.

circuit bending GAS is like crack, but regular GAS is like heroine.

I guess my GAS is like the legal highs you get at festivals. I thnk It's going to be useful, and I really try to convince myself I'm going to feel something with it. but it the end I keep it, never use it and stick with the real stuff.

Dynamo you don't seem like a very good friend to your boy. Why you hate him?

My GAS is under control. Mostly because I like the minimal lifestyle and I'm too lazy to stick more than 6 pieces of hardware together. Things may come and go but the number is fixed.

i don't hate him and when i said i'd use him as an example it's of course not in public but only to myself.
he's a stubborn guy and he migth actually be more into the gear than the music making. maybe i should just drop it...

I need to find a girl that's just into gear ... because if she actually made music .. I might not love her.

dont worry, doubt she'd love u either.
sounds perfect to me.

sounds terrible

who ever said perfect was a Good Thingâ„¢

i agree that g.a.s. can be a clincal problem
however, claiming to not have it runs the risk of moving away from one of electronic musics most interesting possibilities. . .
i.e. the use of technology to store up and create "potential energy" that can be discharged with creative applications.
i.e. using a huge amount of gear to create a simple kick drum or hihat sound.
one could bypass g.a.s. by building your own equipment or modifying equipment.
going software only does not really solve g.a.s., because there one is either spending huge amounts of money on doomed vsts, or breaking the law left and right (sigh).
okay, thanks for the post. that akai is hilarious and makes me wonder if this wasn't a joke. is that for real?

i had something GAS-like with vst plugins. like i couldn't allow myself to make a new track until i had aquired 42 more delay plugins. it was all very oidipal, i ended up killing my desktop (i try to convince myself it was an accident) so i could get a laptop. now i just troll teh interweb.
