--> lol I just got banned for railing on the film "This Film is Not Yet Rated."
I feel so... dirty now.
I just realize that I accidentally used the "r" word while discussing why I did not like that movie. It removed this huge long post about how much I loved documentaries like American Movie and Country Boys because they didn't include an overbearing narrator. The great irony of movies like This Film and "The God Who Wasn't There" are that they attempt to tell you what to think about people who tell you what to think.
Long story short, I accidentally mentioned that I hated "This Films" director for failing to include a counterpoint, and instead including a Jurassic, angry Jack Valenti arguing with a caffeinated permanent adolescent about whether he thinks it's acceptable for his child to go the movie and be shown (ahem) "graphic sexual violence" without a warning. The director says something like "well I guess it would depend on the 8 year old."

I FUCKEN LOVE GRAPES.

i have not ever been banned and i've said really stupid things. this seems silly.
just don't use that word, right?
it was funny. there was a blog encouraging people or daring people to type it in.
i thought it was horribly funny. just the thought of 100 banned people for nothing. probably i'm tired and that isn't funny.

"The great irony of movies like This Film and "The God Who Wasn't There" are that they attempt to tell you what to think about people who tell you what to think."
Thats true. But in a sense all films 'tell you what to think' to a varying degree, all that differs is how clearly this aspect can be identified. Even the most neutral seeming, dialogue-less, music-less documentary (i'm thinking of 'our daily bread') has been very deliberately edited.

ya - i don't think i've ever seen an unbiased account of anything on the big screen, especially in a documentary. i don't think it's possible to get funding for a film that's a sober clear-cut analysis of both sides of any argument, even a hot button emotionally charged topic like r - a - p - e.

it's like unbiased journalism - it just doesn't happen anymore.

I think Errol Morris gets pretty close to unbiased.

Except for that one where he made Werner Herzog eat his shoe.

Personally I was hoping it was an irony ban.

Bans-for-lols are totally justified.

do people think that unbiased journalism ever existed? can we compare and contrast then to now? lemme ask my fiance who's getting a masters in journalism...

journalism is always biased..
which is why it helps to know who the journalists are as people
so you can understand their values
everyone has values, everyone is human, therefor
all journalism is written by humans with values
(thought the integrity of those values is debatable)

also..

r.a.p.e.
censoring content = balls in mouth

this documentary is unbiased: link

HEY LOOK IT IS THE R APE.

isn't every bannination in irony? no one expects to be baned otherwise they wouldn't have typed the offending text. btw, i got banned from here once for no reason i could think of. gave me time to reflect.

please, please, ball(s) in mouth... have some sensitivity for us uniballers

Just because it's impossible to make a documentary without bias doesn't mean that some documentaries don't come closer than others!
