Yay,
Just lost:
- all my pictures from travels / parties / whatever.
- all the music i've ever made (some probably will think this is good)
- all the work i've ever done like websites, graphics and stuff like that

yeah saw so many crashed disc blogs on here that I decided it was pretty urgent to get an external HD... have one now. NOW i'm so paranoid I feel like I should have like 5 of them or something, haha.

seems like this is the obligatory crash course in backup. my laptop hd died a couple of years back. no backup, sent it to this company that does magic and they sent back a new external disk with all of the lost data. it will cost you, but you can probably get your files back.

Yes, plenty of reminders on this site to get yr backups sorted out with all the failures. Next one who's hd fails without a backup has to wear the dunce cap.
Sucks though oerfi, sorry for yr loss of course.
I'm using mozy online backup, not free, but very convenient ('unlimited' storage, you pay per computer rather than per GB) link

A data recovery company should be able to extract all of your data. Though you'll likely max out your credit card doing so.. It's probably worth it.
