It’s been a while since I played a live show, but when it rains, it pours. I’m gonna do 3 shows in december, all pretty different…
December 6 - at p:ear gallery (809 SW Alder) - probably at 6 or 7 ish for first thursday
December 12 - Someday Lounge (125 NW 5th) - playing with Unrecognizable Now
December 17 - Someday Lounge - opening for Umami, The Positive Jam (Jim’s Band) and Demi Batard
I’m especially excited for the unrec now show…I have been playing cello with mapmap and matt these past few weeks and it’s been fun working on a piece to perform with them. It’s gonna start out drone-y and then get plinky (toy pianos and xylophones!) and droney again.
As always, you can see and hear snippets of my shoegazer cello act at: link
Sorry I haven't really been posting as of late...I've been a little depressed lately and this biochem class I'm taking is kicking my balls. It's the next step to a PhD in computational biology, but this class has been making me so miserable that I don't know if I can do another 4 years of school if it's going to be like this.
Cello-wise, still working on the 1st Bach prelude. It's much more fluid lately, and it's been really interesting to work on the same piece for 5 months - there are so many directions and interpretations to explore, tempo-wise, phrasing-wise, dynamics-wise. Looking at the music on the page, it's mostly 16th notes, but playing with tempo (slowdowns and speedups), it really comes alive. Casals said it was 13 years before he felt comfortable playing the cello suites in public. I can believe him - there is a lot to explore...

Also, I forgot to mention:
We've had a bitch of a storm come over here. On the coast, the top windspeed was 129 mph. Some areas we've had as much as 11.7 inches of rain (not in Portland, thank goodness).
Also, the world's biggest sitka spruce tree basically blew over and snapped in half. Sort of sad - we'd stop there on the way to the coast, but now it's gone.
Still want to move to portland, guys?

boo about biochem woes (hope you make it through dude, or that you find a new inspiration...) and the broken tree. YAY about the rest!!!
(big storms are only gonna get bigger and more frequent at this rate - maybe the good people of the world will start to suffer enough soon to make something change...but not until a few million africans have perished i guess - ooh, sorry Roshi *hands blog back*)

Anyway, congrats on the gigs!!! I hope to make the Someday one. The sound at Someday is awesome!!

So was the windstorm caused by everyone in Seattle blowing in our general direction?

Yes, Seattle does have a lot of blowhards
Or was it just caused by Tacoma's aroma?

good luck on the school stuff...
I hate school, haha
Yeah, i worked on the same bach piece for over a year and then finally played it at a recital, it was really satisfying. It's weird, when you know a piece so well you can just kind of look around the room while you're playing it, haha.. and not even have to look at the instrument. I love that feeling, you just start playing and you're 100% absorbed. Man, maybe I should get a cello ;)
