--> I've been slowly getting back into post rock bands and been less interested in electronic stuff lately. However, after years and years of not keeping up with it, I'm totally lost in a sea of hipsterdom...how will people ever think I'm cool? ;) There are so many new groups out there and I'm sick of scouring myspace for samples of random groups who usually end up sucking.

Some bands I've been into are (in no particular order):
red sparowes
daturah
do make say think
mogwai
shalabi effect
mono
sigur ros
explosions in the sky
envy
the evpatoria report
tortoise

Any suggestions for other stuff in this vein that I should check out? I'm starting to feel like that old guy who's out of touch with contemporary music.

Also, I've been totally bored out of my skull recently. The prospect of sitting around in my apartment and tinkering on my laptop has finally lost it's charm. If anyone is in the NYC/brooklyn area and feels like dorking out over a coffee/beer or catching a show sometime, hit me up.

wow just noticed that a great scottish 'post rock' band El Hombre Trajeado have split up, but they've made all four of their albums available for free on their website under creative commons link i strongly recommend downloading them, these guys were fucking great!

i don' see why wearing skinny pants is a bad thing per se. not that i wer one. but that has more to do with body size.

one word, yogurt: mangina.

I don't know if it's been said in any of these 7 pages, but... definitely check out Battles, on Warp. Atlas is some catchy shiz.

And my favorite band of the past year... Animal Collective, all the way.

Skinny pants aren't a bad thing. I don't even think hipsters are really a bad thing. They're doing what they think is cool which is pretty much what we all do, right? They're an easy target, though, so why not get a few potshots in there?

I think animal collective might live really close to me. I should do some investigation so I can end up being that really creepy guy that just happens to show up at all their favorite haunts.

my wife always laughs at me when we go out and I complain about hipsters - the people I complain about have the same style as me, are in the same age range, have the same haircut, etc. I think my hipster hate is really just self hate.

anyone who likes Animal Collective should check out our friend's band BIRD NAMES.

Here's a video (quiet) of them playing on a local children's dance show.

Anyone who complains about hipsters ... either is one .. or is just some jaded "filler".

Thank god I'm a jaded filler, and not a hipster like djugel.

does post rock exist without a hipster to perceive it?

LOL!!!!!

No, in the absence of hipsters it is known as "rock".

so fucking true

hey, I'm never the one bitching about hipsters ...

Not to add fuel to the fire but so what if something is popular. I just don't understand you guys sometimes.

I'm hip by fault, I bought a plaid coat.. I'm sure as soon as it's out I'll get glares (oh well). Always by fault.

I don't know what my point of this post was exactly...
