i lol'd

but in seriousness, stockhausen's written music is some of the most inspirational shit i've ever seen. i mean, he made up his own musical notation and that is real bad ass. just look:

He music is much too linear for my tastes. I'm just too young to care. I'd be a liar if I said I liked it.

take a listen to kontakte... that piece is really nice and layred actually, and the second half is really beautiful

same. I've only heard Kontake but it was not an inspiring experience. kind of made me want to play with my delay pedal though.

no?? haha, that's one of the only pieces of his that i've liked much!

the helicopter string quartet though, that's a winner...

buzz buzz buzz... GAAAH MOOOOO scratch scratch scratch...

this is all amazing... BECAUSE WERE IN HELICOPTERS
You mean a wine glass through a delay pedal.

wow, asshole or not..he made some great drawings

i'd be lying if i said i really LIKED john cage or staukhausen stuff.

their art isn't as important as what they've come to symbolize for the art form. the idea that there are no rules. anything can be music. for this he will be missed... not for some poorly recorded swirling helicopters flown by crying unicorns.

that drawing looks very similar to modern midi notation. when was that drawn?

I guess I'll just weigh in as someone who absolutely loves a good deal of his music (some of it I just find boring) and was hoping to see what he'd do with electronic music in his 80th decade... He'll be missed, but someone said it - 79 really isn't that old, but he did live an amazingly full life and we don't need to mourn that. He'll live on though his work.

hehe, john cage probabaly produced a lot more music on the other side of "terrible" than stockhausen but at least he was one of the nicest dudes who ever lived, and I think he's much more inspiring for me anyway ;)

and that's what I was saying erik, albeit in a 1000x more coarse sort of way, haha

when people die its proper to respect their lives not make fun of them. (he was a guy who made boring music, he wasn't Hitler, so lay off)
