Lol at the yarn rack!
Just got around to seeing this blog and had to contribute. There's the factor of time to consider if you want to produce recordings, and also I know there exists a type of people, myself often included, who don't want to record anything. Their studio is just another sandbox to pass the time away playing in. I have a 9 to 5 job and my studio is a recreational atmosphere.

But the real reason I have so much gear is probably the same reason most of you make music: You hear a certain sound in your head and will do whatever it takes to make that into a reality. The sounds in my head just happen to often be short melodies and phrases easily conjured up with vintage synthesizers, and I'm satisfied with that.
