Check out the "Instrument and effects rack" and "macro control"! Some pretty cool ideas there.
Multi destination MIDI and key mapping..."hot swappable" files from browser may be useful

wow that 'new and improved instruments and fx' is kinda an understatement.. look at how different the simpler and saturator look@!
more exciting now. though with the sales at NI this summer... my software dollars may go to the ni instead of the ableton. ($179 for absynth 3?! 50$ reaktor upgrade?! yo)

"Recording automation into clips? Oh I hope it'll be there... The rest seems neat but not revolutionary. The movie stuff is nice though, I hope you can see the frames in the sequencer... The flatten is nice, the multi-destination midi is nice, things that will really streamline the workflow, i think."
yeh, this what i wanted as well. i thought i had talked to someone on the developer forum and he said they were working on it.
also, i wouldve liked to be able to drag automation and everything from session to clip view...maybe they did do this. dont know?

they already do this. what i want is click record, tweaks my knobs which were assigned to automation, and being able to overdub and stuff like that. You can'tdo that now, and even ifyou can record midi CCs (not assigned to automation), you can't overdub them really as they keep falling back to the old value. In arrangementview it works like i want, changing an automation resets the envelope. But in a live context i use the session view :/ I watched all the showcase videos but it doesn't look like it's possible. But then ableton used to not reveal all the features in their pre announces so i hope it'll be there.
edit: that's the thread to watch: link

Can't you just resample from the channel with the automation into a new clip? hmm...never really noticed this, I've always programmed it in manually.

people need to stop going overboard with features. any manufacturer adds and adds to it each year and makes it so ridiculously complicated that no one ever gets anything done. i prefer things simple, with essential features, and the ability to create interesting patches. imagine what ableton will be like in five years? just fix the bugs and make it faster. perhaps add a feature or two that people really wanted, perhaps remove some that people didn't. argh! features features features!
still.....

i'm sticking w good ol live 4
i agree with race - i'd just be distracted by all the new bells and whistles.
i know that both live 5 and 6 have tons of cool widgets and features, but have ableton ever managed to improve the summing in the basic engine?
is there anything about improved summing in amongst all the news about live 6? i'd pay money for that.

"summing in the basic engine?"
have you ever tested this? I did, there's no summing issue I could find. summing is bullshit. all DAW's sound the same, if not: bug.

are you sure? i watched the video but i didn't get it (maybe i'm just a bit slow today ;) clips save automation today also.
recording automation directly in clips are actually one of the few features i miss in live 5. just like it is described in this thread link
race4prize said: "argh! features features features!"
yeah, this trend is not good. guess it's a business thing. you can't release a new version without new features...
breakscience said: "

sure. i do that also, but sometimes you want to change for example a filter tweak later you need the actual automation.
