just curious as the new year rolls around what everyone here is up to musically. what have you worked on this year? what are you working on now? plans for the immediate future? touring? recording?
it'd be nice to know what's going on with everybody.

2007 was a bit lazy for me but got some things done.
- Released a proper "techno" record for the first time .. master by my hero Nilz @ the exchange
- Also played my first show with my techno group Mandate .. even though it was a Halloween cover set.
- Finished the Chandeliers album that was started around the start of 2006 and half-assed for way too long.
Now for 2008
- Mandate is playing it's first real show .. opening for Solvent at the Empty Bottle on the 29th of Jan.
- Chandeliers is playing South by Southwest in Austin this year. With our friend's band (Icy Demons).. and their friend's band (Man Man)
- My friend is completely redid his old loft space and is creating a proper recording studio .. and we are also having a practice space there and we can record for free. Just moved my gear in this weekend.. practicing tonight.

for me, nothing as usual. But I have a steady stream of ideas, mostly melodies and basslines.
I can't seem to be arsed to make drums though. Anybody want to make me some for a goof?

2007-
In the spring, my brother moved away. He's a drummer and we were doing a drum/guitar duo thang. Never played out. It's a shame. It was good times, though.
Around summer, played a local (Provo, Utah!) show as squeal moan howl with collaborator Heather. Experimental electronic. Went surprisingly well, despite the technical difficulties. Also played Circuit Festival in Denver, CO. It was almost worth the drive, but no. Some old High School (and church) friends came and were blown away (in a bad way) by our music. Very conservative people, total strangers to me now. Weird, sad.
Did 4 or 5 mixits this year, one or two pretty cool. Mixits are pretty awesome for the feedback giving and getting. I realized with my last mixit that if I don't discipline myself, I will write the same song (essentially) over and over and over. Next one maybe I'll force a top-down approach.
This year I also started work on my long-planned guitar midi controller project. I soldered up the midibox core and tested it, and got an old acoustic guitar, pulled the frets and got it halfway done mechanically. I'll probably blog about that when I get back into it.
2008-
Getting a piano this week! Yuss! All my favorite self music I have written on the piano.(<-- worst sentence evar) Lenore, my wife, loves piano. I would love to get her to collab with me. Also, Elise (the kid) is almost old enough (5) for me to force her to practice the piano. It's only fair. She is VERY musical and creative. I should really post some Elise music up here or maybe as a sample for a mixit. She can make shit up like nobody's business.
I plan to continue with the mixits, and really try to make something complete with each one. I just scrapped Vista on my laptop, and put Ubuntu on there, so that will take some time sort out I'm sure.
I really need to improve our economic situation this year, so I'm really focusing on that primarily. Music stuff will take a back seat for a bit, at least the more time-consuming aspects of it.
That's about it I guess. It's been awesome to hear all of your 2007 stories here. Keep 'em coming.

thanks so much everyone for posting. i just had a really nice time reading everyone's updates and it makes me excited for what's to come. can't tell you all how nice it is to have em411!
as for me, in 2007 i worked really hard on three records that aren't done yet (cedar av, decibully, and buffalo) and not hard at all on one that is (headlights). i put together a live band to play shows as buffalo, which was a big step for me seeing as it's the first project i've produced all the tracks for. the handful of shows felt good, but then lia (my collaborator) moved to san fran. cedar played a few shows in between recording. decibully played a lot of shows. headlights played even more shows (70+, i think) and shot a video in provo, utah. i also tried to get more remix work this year, to some mild success.
2008 hopefully will be good. the cedar av record should be finished really soon, as should the decibully album. the headlights record comes out on feb. 19th on polyvinyl. i'm leaving on feb 10th for 7 weeks of dates with them in the u.s. and eastern canada. i'll be at sxsw (i'll have to come see chandeliers, djugel) in austin again, so if anyone else will be there let me know and we can try to meet up. this year i'd really like to work on fleshing out my studio and getting a live setup going. i'd really like to start playing solo oak shows at some point this year, but i haven't really decided what they will sound like or how i will do it soft/hardware wise. i'd also like to work on not procrastinating as much, staying motivated and not wasting so much time. dvds cut huge chunks out of my day and never even say sorry. wtf?
thanks again everyone for posting! i can't wait to hear all your new material.
