from what it loks like its still 2d images rendered on linearly sliding layers... like early cell animation or the background of ninja gaiden on nes. true shifts in perspective cause objects to appear to rotate slightly opposite your movement direction about a vanishing point exponentially. i bet the processing to do all that in real time at any impressive polygon cunt while still moving your meatspace in the z direction is still a while away.

well, he said the wiimote can track up to 4 points.
rotation of 3d and 2d elements isn't as much of a challenge as creating an IR transmitter (LED array) whose shape is such that its angle from the wiimote could be determined with a high degree of accuracy.

mount another wiimote on the ceiling square to the meatspace. this one tracks 2 more "blinded" leds only visible from above. the original leds are "blinded" to only be visible from the front.
