Heya,
I finally managed to do what I had planned for a long time, I hacked one of my small MIDI-USB boards into my MicroNord. Actually this is a first version, I've got a big filter whistle big band triple MIDI interface but the board is still to big to fit into the Nord. So I don't need to wire up all the midi crap now to patch the nord from a pc (the normal MIDI ports are still working the way they used to), and when I connect it it's actually called "NordModular" as well.

Well, I used one of the USB MIDI boards I designed, but I guess you could use any available in stores. I will do a new batch of my boards soon, with them being smaller, so I could send you one. Then I just soldered on the MIDI connectors inside the Nord to the one on the USB interface, just like a cable would do. I sawed off a small corner of the nord encasing to fit the USB socket (I sawed off a bit too much, so there is a gap, lol). Then I glued the USB conncetor inside the nord, and soldered on the cables to my USB MIDI circuit board. I glued the board to the right side of the Nord, then put everything back together, et voila.

Heh crabster, that was a really appreciated buy. I didn't really do much with it until now, but I'm slowly getting there. I plan to take this mofo apart like I did with the machinedrum

EDIT: One of the things that kept me back was that insane midi wiring.

Manuel, if/when you get some of the boards sorted, write up some instructions [im a complete div when it comes to electronics] and Ill sort you some cash.
you should look at doing this as an offered mod - good way to make some money.

Zanf: Yeah, I could definitely see this becoming something of a hit actually. They're already cheap, and once freed from the need of a billion midi cables, they're actually usable on the road as well.

I think I want to do that triple MIDI thing before then. I alreayd have some filters working that enable you to change key scalers and things on midi messages, which is a really practical way to extend your nord. Also, MIDI clock sync!!

What microcontroller family is it? PIC/AVR/...?

it's an atmega8 in this version, the bigger one has a atmega128 coupled with an atmega8.

I want one of those usb-midi boards. I could plug my midibox guitar controller right into my laptop and power it from there, too!
Second the idea that this could be a big hit. So many devices could benefit from it.

I dunno, you know it's just a standard usb midi adapter. You could buy one, cut off the cables and do it yourself.
