This article is pretty interesting. It talks about how producers are mastering for mp3, and shitty computer speakers. Using compression to make things sound louder on ipods, and the loss of detail.

It kind of makes me sad.

I don't mind the mastering so much ... it's the producing. Hence why I think Confeld sounds like artistic crap.. overcompressed tones that just sound like clipping noises and lack any dynamics.

This is why I still don't understand what nagrom means when he says that this tones have more "timbre" than older 90's produced EM. I feel the sounds are suffocated and seem to lack "body" and detail... like a sausage without a casing.

lol sausage without a casing.. isn't that a patty?

Q: What is Confeld made out of?
A: Tone meat.

and im with danny... its not the mastering.
if stuff is smashed and shitty, it sounds that way long before getting to mastering.

mp3 is only temporary. bandwidth will be 24/96 friendly in time and the basic model ipod will be a solid state hardrive w/a capacity of 750mb. just have to wait a little while.

i agree.. the mixing is the problem but the mastering isn't exactly helping much.

tantan, i think I know the song you are referring to... it has lyrics that go: "you've got yours and I've got mine. All it takes, is a little time... and a..." somethingorother. A woman's voice, very plain and simple but so wildly autotuned it sounds like a computer singing. Yuck. I hate it too.

YES! That's the one! ARGH it drives me crazy! I'm so glad I'm not the only one who hates it.
