--> Thom Yorke in a recent interview on the Internet release of Rainbows:

Wired Magazine

thom said: "In terms of digital income, we've made more money out of this record than out of all the other Radiohead albums put together, forever — in terms of anything on the Net. And that's nuts. It's partly due to the fact that EMI wasn't giving us any money for digital sales. All the contracts signed in a certain era have none of that stuff."

depressed yet?

i sure am"

which is why i think that this 'new distribution method' is a bunch of fluff. since when has selling records based on your existing popularity ever been... different?"

not 'existing popularity'. they were put through 'the mill'. he means that someone in a massive record company gambled a shitload of money on them, hoping that they'd be one of the magical 10% that would pay the rest of their bills. a giant heartless record company gave them a fuckton of money, which they certainly paid back twenty times over, but that's maybe the only reason we're having this discussion. because all of a sudden, magically, 'creep' was on every tv in the world.

more than the simple economics, this fits their image as an 'indy band'. it like something the rolling stones would do if they were 30 years younger.

still tho, they have too many guitar players.

fucking Pearl Jam.

it's a lovely interview

yeah, I think it's an interesting interview, well said and straighforward.

it is a good interview. would be better if they got some label goon from sony in there to piss everyone off.

listening to them talk about the syllable guide in the last snippet nearly broke my head, ive never spoke to anyone about that process so it was quite odd to hear thom yorke reflect my own experiances that i have had myself on such a personal level.
