--> Happy New Year!
Hope this one's a good year for everybody.

I had a great time at ATP in December and met Samski (but unfortunately not Zanf)
I don't think I've really bee on here since then...
Hope everybody's Christmas was enjoyable.

You may, or may not haha, remember my last blog about the venue where I work.
Things still aren't looking great. The next time we can apply for funding for putting on all the gigs we do is in March. So until then we're in hibernation mode, everything is really stripped back. Minimal staff (I'm doing a few voluntary shifts). Just ticking over until then.
We've got a few great gigs coming up too - Dalek and Caribou.

Perhaps most exciting for me - We're also hosting an exhibition of native Coventrian, Steve Gullick's work. link
Great photographer and really pleasant guy, very friendly. He's just very 'real', no bullshit.
Anyhow the opening night for this is the 24th of January at Taylor John's House, Canal Basin, Coventry.
The flyer on his website say pretty much everything you need to know.
There's a event on Facebook too, search for "Tenebrous photography".

His own band, Tenebrous Liar are playing, he's bringing his friend's band and he asked that 2 of the bands I'm in play as well.
I need to buy some new bass strings before then haha!

It'd be great if any of you could make it over for the night, I'm sure it's gonna be a good one!

Oooh, the little record label my boss runs (Tin Angel Records) is getting some good press. Paul Curreri has a piece in this week's MOJO. His wife, Devon Sproule did an acoustic set on Radio 2 last year and has a piece in the Gaurdian. I think Adrian Crowley also has a piece in Rock Sound.

Any body got any gigs they're planning to go to this year?
I'm planning to see -
Mayhem next month,
Low and / or Bjork in April,
Einsteurzend Neubauten, Portishead and Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds whenever it is they're playing (if they do!),
My Bloody Valentine in June.

I'll stop droning now!

Take care,
Alex x

new year resolution no.27663762 : go and represent at the venue Alex works at and loves so much. (note to self: it's only up the road in coventry you lazy slag!)

p.s. you had a great time at ATP despite meeting me? wow!

Sam, i heard that zanf had a great time too, despite also meeting you

hehehe - seems unlikely, but the world is full of surprises...

Ahahaha, yeah ATP was great! A good day to have a birthday!

If you could make it that would be great, Sam.
I'm sure it's gonna be a great evening, and I don't just say stuff like that.

I've got a few things I need to get done before the 24th.
I need to restring my bass, box up an overdrive I've been working on (a tweaked version of Jack Orman's MiniBooster)
and hopefully (if I'm afforded the time) shield the cavities in my bass with copper foil.

How's life in Birmingham?
Did you have a good New Year's?

hey alex,

will deffo try to make it over...don't hesitate to bombard me with reminder emmails! my brain is full of holes, so i often find myself saying 'shit, i was meant to be going to that' -- after the event...

like your list of things to do...i just kitted out the shed i bought myself for my birthday - it rocks (blog to follow)...

birmingham is cool. not starting back at work officially yet. will get 2008 rolling properly tomorrow - which i look forward to, as i am one of those lucky buggers that likes his worky one negative at the mo is that having my girlfriend's parents over (staying in our house) is a f**kin' mare at times...but we'll survive.

New Year's was fucking minto dude!!! seriously loved it. me and missus went to wales in one little cottage, and our mates (and thier kids) in the neighbouring cottage. stayed for a few days. did some lovely walks (bigish, hardcore weather...just as i like it). NYE was a case of shed-loads of good booze, good tunes, games and dancing into the wee hours. WOOOP!

So, Cov treating you well? Your New Year all good? fill me in.......................
