fredo's review blog got me thinking about my last "review". every year i make a cd of tracks that i have done that year and play it to my mum and dad.
this year was no exception. i played the tracks to them in the car.
i was kind of proud of some of them as i am singing and playing the guitar and piano.
first of all my dad kept turning them down, as he needed to "concentrate" on driving the car at 30mph all the time.
then when we did get to listen to them, my mum made the following critique (imagine a non-plussed mum voice):
"it sounds like mike oldfield. your good at creating crecendos, and then dropping out"
my dad
"yeah very mike oldfield, is that you playing the piano?"
it was like the whole world had stopped. i think my mum was right. its scary.
anyone else experienced devastating critiques by parents?

Great blog topic!
I let my mom listen to a few pieces I was preparing for a live set I did a few years ago. I played the crunchier of the two first, and while she nodded her head a bit, the lack of any other feedback made it quite clear that it wasn't much to her liking. I followed that up with a simple, ethereal melody that was to form the core of the second piece. Her response: "Hmmmm, now that one has some music to it!"

My mother is right their with J_chot's. "Alex that's great!" Thanks mom, you said that about the last song too which was a twenty minute sine wave with distortion i just set up to see how much you would lie to me. AWESOME! She is a great mother. My dad however is an honest critic, and I actually trust his advice. He also happens to be the drummer in my newly formed metal band so he is kind of off his rocker.

my parents genuinely like it I fear. more like "my son did this!"
I don't think they'd bump it in the car though.
janette is a pretty good critic, even though she doesn't like this type of stuff.
