I have a sort of dillema. I have been making techno for the past couple of months and have showed everyone my work even my mom, except for my girlfriend. I dont know if i could ever tell her. She knows or atleast has seen, my midi controllers/interfaces/expensive record players/sweet stereo system. She hasnt seen me make music, because she doesnt live with me, but I would kind of like to share my passions with her, but I am afraid. How does one come out of the electrocloset?
So far I have been playing more and more dance music in the car when we are driving around, and around the house. Maybe one day I will slip in one of my songs. "baby i have to tell you something. Im, Im a ..... this might be tough to take, you should sit down. I am an electronic musician."
Lots of pressure. Anyway, what are your guys thoughts? Have you told your significant others?

"i dont really want to have her listening to my music, and i dont want her to "support" me by saying my music is "good", since most of it obviously isnt."
@ greezybear: Dude. Now I'm double-lost. You're afraid to tell her because she may lie about how much she may (pretend to) LIKE what you do??? No offense, but is that a joke?? That sounds insane and paranoid. Nobody's forcing you to play your music for anyone. Most of my friends, family, and lovers haven't heard 95% of what I've made. Just because you tell her you make things doesn't mean she or anyone else has to hear any of it unless you want them to... even if they beg you. Your music / art / experiments are your's and no one else's unless you choose to share them. But hiding the fact that this is an important and impassioned part of your life is ridiculous - if you really care about her.

first of all, be happy you even have a girlfriend. that's not meant to be mean, but come on, we're talkin about BOOBS here! so STFU.
secondly, if you're still feeling a little wierd about playing her one of your tracks, just set up a real romantic evening, get her in the mood fo' some luvin'. then when she's blindfolded and being slowly led into your room over the rose petal covered floor... BLAM!!! Crank one of your tracks full throttle!!!
hopefully that helps ya with the womenfolk. i ain't had no trouble.

er, this sounds like a pisstake...
give her a mix cd/tape, slip one of your tracks in ///
Er, don't worry about this stuff.... Just make your music, don't worry if it's good or not, just do it. When you worry about being any good or not you aren't 100%, you are seperated from it. My ex-girlfriend didn't really want to listen to my music either, or be that interested in it but so what... If your not doing it for yourself then who are you doing it for? If you like each other that's good enough.

This thread makes me really appreciate my relationship. I couldn't imagine not talking about music or art or politics or any of the things I'm into with my partner.
Be honest and upfront to everyone, especially those you're close to.

Ill only talk what i know..
My wife cursed at the Juno -106 everytime she walked passed it.
Only thing she likes about it is the Korg karma and novation basstation keys because its cute and little and the karma is red.
Hates hates hates my fuckin music...
Hates it because the beep boom tss is my true first love.
She does like dance mixed cd's though.
I made a DJ mix once w/ proper girlie house tunes and mixed in one of my tunes that sound close and she said wow this tune is pretty. I said this ones mine.
Im a workaholic during the week, so on the weekends I spend a good 6-12 hours on tunes, even if it means my wife throws around shit while i do it cause we can be out together spending my money.
I still dont hear the end of any spontaneous gear purchases off of ebay.
When I bust out my vinyl she always ask do i have Im in love with you by Starparty(puke) or any BT, for Christ sake I find Robert Armani's "I have a big dick" great techno, why the fuck would I have Starparty or bT?? Lika asking a thrash guitarist to play gay hair metal!
That chick better loooove techno if your music is in your blood like alot of ppl! If its in your blood man, music will always be first! Most chicks will have a problem with this, and if they happen to make techno too they are probably fuckin nutjobs also!
