i wanna get a tattoo but don't know what
i don't have any design that i can add to my body that would represent anything that i hold dear, like people who tattoo swastikas, new born babies, jesus, virgin mary, etc., etc. so i was thinking of doing something geeky, like a circuit, or a cassette, or a floppy disc, LOL
i'm kinda leaning towards the elvish inscription on the One Ring from Lord of the Ring
what do u have on?

Human skin mostly looks very nice, and even an ugly skin cant be made any better by having a "meaningful" image put on it.
Dress better is the way to go."
although many times the dress btter + killer tattoo combo does look rad

I have mostly dumb shit from my teens. The only tattoo that I still love is the Einsturzende Neubauten logo on my right forearm. BAND LOGO TATTOO OMFG LOSE. The symbol actually has older roots and other meanings. Strangely, a lot of people have this as an arm tattoo. Henry Rollins, for one. My oldest friend and the first love of my life, for two and three. The most awesome person in the whole universe, for four (myself, duh).
Anyway, I don't think tattoos have to have some GREAT SERIOUS meaning. In fact, it gets annoying when people ask "why did you get that?" and "what does that mean [to you]?". I got it because it's art and I like it? If it's not a person's face or some famous piece of artwork then expect these questions. Think about the answer before you decide what to stamp yourself with.
However, that doesn't mean you should just get whatever random crap that looks good to you at the time. Passing interests are iffy (maybe your LOTR idea...are you sure you'll be this into LOTR for the rest of your life?). Like, what interests and passions have you had for most of your life? Using myself as an example, music is obviously my earliest passion...medicine is another; heavy interest in ancient civilization, cosmology, physics and my Nordic heritage. So, I have two tats representing ancient Egypt, one for music and the other two are just something I liked the look of.
Yeah, so my next tat will probably be a Viking tranformer that turns into Stephen Hawking and communicates using an electric violin. There's some Giger-esque shit thrown in there somewhere, too. Also probably some medical crap written in Latin, because that will make me look serious and smart.

ouch, that last one looks like a real scar, unless it is... damn
bllix, how dare you call my beloved Middle Earth a passing interest!?!?!?!?!? LOL, i'm just kidding. I'm actually a very devoted fan of all things LOTR. I have all the books, I own all the movies and cartoons, have calendars, and even wear my One Ring chain everywhere, hehehe. And as soon as I finish reading The Alienist, I'm gonna start reading Tolkien again, starting from the beginning of time... The Silmarillion.... oooooh can't wait.
anyway, back to subject...

has anyone noticed how instead of being marks of individuality, tattoos are mostly yet another sign of conformity.
like those girls who get some crappy design on their bottom of their back, or blokes with "tribal" upper arm marks.
if i was gonna get one it would be ACAB on my forehead.

ive been wanting to get a tattoo for so long.. its on my list of things to do.. but i never seem to have the money to justify getting it done ( they are expensive here in oz ) ..
im thinking of getting my band logo tattooed on my bicep.. just because its been such a monumental thing in my life so far.. and i find tattoo's incredibly sexy ( especially on the neck, or leg ) ...
then again i also want a prince albert.. but i think ill get the tattoo first..
