I DON'T THINK THE SITE SUX. I was joking around.

It dawned on me the other day as I was maneuvering about the site that the muted palette and minimal display of images is what my mind registers as "off". Don't get me wrong, the UI looks clean and there's a lot to be said for the lack of clutter when user-contributed visual media is limited.
Avatars were awesome, and often a primary source of fun and amusement (parodies more than mischief) within the community. The customization options for empages allowed for a greater level of personal expression. Expression is the bane of an artist's existence. White box blue line doesn't represent me or my art. Being unable to embed images also contributes to this feeling of (close to) repression.
Before anyone gets a camel toe over this, thinking I'm just complaining and who am I to say, anyway, pompous ass, everything is fine, opinions should match the look and feel of the site, go away if you don't like it, shut up, hate you, drama queen, myspace, livejournal, deadjournal even, emo motherfucker, flamer, loser, stuck up loser with no life, ignorant of the web, know nothing of em411...etc etc.
I'm just talking here. There's no intention of drama or to offend. The only thing I'll apologize for is that most of this has probably already been bitched about for years...nobody wants to hear grandma tell that same fucking story AGAIN.

omg i miss avatars too. i just went through some old files and found a load of images that i have used, and, i have to say, i got really soft inside.
and, to be honest, it really helped getting to know people. or atleast, remember who is who. now there are a lot of poeples on the site i dont know; before, you always had that visual thing to connect to the name, so it would be easier to remember who said what and who is who and who do i know. might just be me being stupid and old, but hey.
