I've been eyeing the bugbrand store for awhile now.. Got on thier mailing list so that i would know when the new stuff went up.. I was deathly sick yesterday so I did nothing online. Checked my email today. He finished the run of 8 and put them up for sale on his online store, and they are sold out already..

Weak..

I still have a couple of things i want to purchase from boutique electronic shops(people making small runs in thier basement) i hope this doesn't happen with everything..

I got one of the 8 from this round. Last run he had, I waited an hour to think about it and they were all gone when I checked back.

As perhaps consolation to anyone who missed out, I've tried buying something from Psyingo twice in the past without luck.

And I'm with you, the trend is a bit worrisome, like small-run stuff has gone the way of vintage gear, being bought by lawyers with deep pockets and a mid-life complex.

I like the way 4ms does it, they let you order, guarantee they'll fill that order, but warn that it might take a few weeks. I think some of these manufacturers are worried that they'll start screwing orders up by keeping wait lists (bookkeeping isn't an innately had skill for many folk), or that they don't like the idea of having to make something on demand rather than making what interests them in any given lunar cycle.

The recent demand for the monomes is odd, though. It's definitely cool gear, but I can't figure out what caused this feeding frenzy atmosphere, especially since it isn't exactly instant gratification gear.

yeah--on the monomes. I know youtube isn't really a perfect barometer of who is using the thing--but really, it looks like about 95% of the people who own them can barely even figure out how the bundled software that comes with them works--let alone program their own! It's truly strange how people have been wanting them so bad in light of the fact that really to use it "well" or creatively you need to have pretty decent programming skills and a lot of motivation. But that's a whole different topic.
