--> oh.my.god. this is easily one of the best movies i've seen in a long time

it rules on so many levels it's hard to explain which are the best things about it

-stellar artists
-ingenious dialogues
-great director (i hope he won't marry madonna anytime soon)
-kingsley kills me
-splendid soundtrack
-extremely funny
-etc
-etc

i get off on how he's using the coen-bowling cam for the boulder or the floating figures cunningham has introduced in his portishead video

i'll pick up the dvd as soon as i see it somewhere

watch.it. highly recommended!

layer cake was dull imho, the dialogues were bromodic, the actors mediocre, the story lame, the direction boring, the humor sucked, the action too

etc
etc

but it's probably a matter of personal taste in the end

yeah, this is one of my faves. I liked pretty much everything about it.

I love Different Strokes!

It's too bad the white kid died though.

i can't imagine anyone more psycho than Kingsley in this movie. a bit like Pesci's performance in goodfellas.

I TOTALLY agree! Fecking amazing film. One of those that I consider under-rated, even though it got stellar reviews. This one's a serious art classic, imo.

Kingley's performance is one of the greatest villains I've seen. So scary and also so commical. Kind of the coked up, nihilist brother of the villain from Night of the Hunter.

That dream sequence with the rabbit and the awesome DJ Shadow slomo music give me the chills every time.

YAY!!!
ian mcshane plays the big boss (teddy), for those deadwood fans out there.

but, yeah, brilliant fillm

is it DJ Shadow or is it Unkle...I understand there was some friction between Shadow and James LaVelle and my understanding was that LaVelle ended up taking over the Unkle name which they originally shared. at any rate the beats sound distinctly un-Shadow to me, though South's contribution needs to be considered as well. anyway, yeah, great movie, killer soundtrack, personal fave being "Peaches"

now everytime i'm having a sunbath i'm reminded of the opening sequence...

"i'm roasting, i'm melting"

smeck!

ian mcshane.... lovejoy.

can I post unpopular movie opinions to this blog too? Clearly I'm in the minority on this film.

i was working as a projectionist when this one came out. it didn't go to the big theatres, at least not on cape cod. i remember one lady came out of the theatre and complained she couldn't understand a thing they were saying. americans! still, its probably better she didn't. those brits really know how to cuss.

ben kingsley is great in it, really shows a side of his talent you've never seen before (if you watched schindler's list or ghandi). i didn't think it was mind blowing, but 90% of the movies that make it to theatres are trash. i'd say this is in the top 1-2%. worth it for the performances. the premise was fairly interesting. i thought it was a little monotonic overall. thats nitpicking though.

my pick for a crime movie to watch if you've never seen it: Donnie Brasco w/ al pacino, mike madsen, johnny depp. i think paul giamati has a bit part. imdb could tell you more.

can't wait for this summer's crop of 90 minute computer generated product placement extravaganzas. sorry, old complaints...
