--> Howdy,
As I'm sure some of you know, since I repeat this fact every few months in a blog, I'm a painter by training and a "graphic designer" by trade. I put that in scare quotes because I personally wouldn't hire me, but apparently other people would, so there you go.

Anyway, I recently formed an art collective with some friends from art school called MONSTER ISLAND (all caps aren't necessary, but preferred, like MF DOOM).
We have an installation going up at the (world famous?...if not just for it's Frank Gehry-designed architecture) Weisman Art Museum on Wed, and I launched our brand new website today in preparation for our first real show:
www.monsterislandart.com

I made it today, over an extended lunch break, so it's not quite done yet but I think it came out nicely. I'll be giving each artist an individual gallery in the near future, with more viewing room, the gallery in place now is just too small!

Please have a look and offer crits/comments/compliments!

Andy

fuckin brilliant!

i loves thy art!

looks absolutely grand. Chinese coffee torture... man, that's odd. In a good way of course. I love all of the works actually. And the other artists are great as well. Congrats on an exciting gig!

is your monster island related to the one in the best godzilla episode ever made?

imagine mothra, ebira, godzilla. . plus a bunch of other fuckknowswhats (i think gamera was there too? as well as some random dinosaur thing, the multiple headed lightning shooting space monster, etc etc) all on the same island doing battle, black and white men in suit style... helll yea! there was a volcano too!

oh, man... not to hijack the thread but Godzilla.... There was a period I think not too late into the releases where the soundtrack got so f'ing beautiful. Deeply mysterious and infectiously catchy at the same time. I remember once having a bad cold and staying home during a Godzilla fest on the tube and I wish I could find these beautiful themes! I rented some of the recent remastered releases and they are either really early and not the music I loved, or late with kind of camp music!

Anyway, back to monster island...

Thanks jogn!

Thanks Fredo! The coffee torture and interview paintings are from my senior show, in which I attempted to merge images of office work with images of torture in a sort of blackly humorous way.

Cartesia- let's just say I went by both Mothra and Megalon at different times in my life and my gmail account is zilla1. ;)

good skills

nice. some really great stuff there.

cool man.

...sorry the "island" thing just reminded me of it.
Thanks all!
Breakscience- I almost clicked that at work, lol

I think I'm going to move from simpleviewer to lightbox2 when I get the time... I'd done a simpleviewer gallery before, so I just through it in there for familiarity's sake but lightbox is much nicer, imo.

URTHEMAN. i wish my artwork was being exhbited in gallery space designed by gehry! bastard.

very nice color work on Rodan. what kind of paint did you use for it?

MP1- Thanks! It's acrylic, believe it or not. One day the art store had a ton of Blaze Orange acrylic on sale for $2 a bottle, so I said "why not" and got some.
Eric-Thanks a million! I seriously can't express enough gratitude for spreading the good word!
BrkSci- Sure, sure... one wrong click and I'm in dong-land
