responsible for some of the finer releases on metalheadz and
always a good night when he was behind the decks.

seems like he is being penalised for trying to take his music
to foreign climes. sucks
gonna find out where he is and send a letter of support.

oh and it turns out that our ex-president tony blair stopped an enquiry into freud
and corruption in saudi's royal family as he was threatened with more terrorist attacks in london if the enquiry continued.

yeah, heard about this a while back...sad news. grooverider roooooollllz! he is far from the only one...apparently dubai is mad for it at the moment. One chap has been in prison for over 20 days already, without chrage, but is facing 4 years for a grain of cannabis found on the sole of his shoe...as big as a grain of sugar...

yeah heard this quite some time back. dubai really sucks llama's ass.

there's this hotel in dubai, where to even just step into the compound you got to pay 50 bucks.

I don't know why you 'd take a risk with drugs in Arab countries when the punishments are so harsh.

I feel for him, but he was a bit stupid.

yeah seriously.
It's unfortunate that he did that- but it's your responsibility to know the laws of a place you visit. It's not like he got randomly punished for some common substance- this was marijuana. There are a lot of places in the US that would have done the same thing.
That's the risk you take when you get involved with this shit.

That said, I'm a big grooverider fan, and this saddens me.

otoh, dubai incarcerates for scarcely visible amounts of substance, like 0.006 grams of haschisch. wtf? or this swiss guy who got incarcerated cause he ate a poppy seed bagel in germany and still had a few poppy seeds on his shirt.

I met him once after a World Dance party at Lydd Airport - he is fucking huge and I mean massive. Both my hands together would be the width of one of his. 12" records to him are like 7" to me.

That fraud investigation that was halted was a bit more than possible terrorist threats [considering that all the hijackers on the 911 flights were Saudi dissidents] but was that if anything more was uncovered it would have shown how deep the rabbit hole goes.

what happens in dubai, stays in dubai, for 4yrs

that does suck, but it's true, in a place where alcohol is pretty much illegal to nationals, you can't expect them to ignore marijuana. you have to respect the laws of the land.....
Someone needs to contact Amnesty International.

only time I ever saw grooverider, everybody hyped the shit out of him for months in advance...

he was so fucked up he could hardly stand straight, and proceeded to trainwreck just about every mix. . this was mainstage, primetime, at a major event

I can totally understand how he might have genuinely forgotten about that weed in old clothes, but tough shit. .you go somewhere like that you check everything to be certain you aint got anything, not just assume youll be ok, when you know you leave shit lyin round sometimes.

I dig that, even if I don't agree with the lack of any apparent flexibility in the rules (as I understand it any possession is likely to result in 4 years), but this is being applied to people that don't have any cannabis on them. The example I gave above is apparently one of many. This example is of a man with no record of any drug use, according to friends and family, and when he was initially stopped and checked they found nothing in his bag...so they checked again and found possible traces of cannabis in the threads of his bag. They later said this wasn't cannabis but that they had found 1 grain of cannabis on the underside of his shoe, equivalent to the size of a grain of sugar (sorry for the repetition) - he is likely to face a 4 year sentence. I have never taken any drug in my life (except alcohol) but I would have to think twice about going to Dubai. Luckily it doesn't really appeal on any level anyway, so no worries for me...

a bloke i know visited brunei and had accidentally left a very small piece of cannabis resin in his sporran (lol)

he was lucky to only have to spend a week in a pit dug in the ground, shared with scores of other men.

Backwards-assed states, absolutely ridiculous. and: air travel with spliff in pocket is a dumb mistake.

fuck, this sucks big time. second the someone call AI call.
sort of reminds of when i landed in singapore many many years ago, for stopover only, but was handed this flyer, in the plane, which informed us about the death penalty for any drugs, in singapore :S ..which made me spend along uncomfortable time thinking about every possibility of some leftover greenery somwehere in my bag.
all was ok, but, always check before going to such places

uhh, from link :

“The presence of drugs in the body is counted as possession,” the Foreign Office cautions. In other words, travel-lers can be jailed even if they have no drugs on them: a trace in the blood-stream of a drug consumed before entering the UAE is enough to secure a jail term.
Such was the fate of an 18-year-old Egyptian boy who smoked a cigarette containing hashish a day before he flew to the UAE this year. Traces of the drug were found in his blood and he was jailed in April by a court in the emirate of Fujairah for four years.

how fucked up is that?##
