damn, i remember having to upload the entire warp and ninja tune catalogs on to iTunes when i was working at their distributor in japan. now i feel like i am a potential accessory to artist sodomy...

i love the flashbulb, but i have serious problems with that article. if he never signed any agreement for his digital rights management, why is it there? sounds like his problem is with sublight.

there's a few things that could be happening
1. he didn't read his contract
2. sublight isn't paying him his itunes money
3. sublight is getting screwed by itunes and doesn't have the lawyer fees to fight it
4. itunes stole his music

and from the article, there's no proof of anything. the only thing he quotes is that his cd was downloaded 6 thousand some odd times from whatcd. you know what? my ep was downloaded 2,000 times from archive.org, and i do have reliable accounting for my digital downloads. i have made only a couple hundred dollars off of downloads, and every time someone gets a song of mine itunes i make some 60-80 cents.

who is at fault? we just don't know. that irritates me.

sublight went out of business last year.

well then who bought their catalogue?

they still have contracts/rights etc w/distributors/artists over existing material. they just aren't putting anything else out.

or at least that's my assumption.

michael jackson, IIRC

goddam gloved one gets everywhere ....

"has decided to shun conventional distribution methods by .... making his latest album available for free download"

unheard of!
