the funny thing about drum racks is the presets seem arranged all over the map unlike impulse which is always C3-C4. Perhaps your midi is hitting the track just fine but you're not hitting a note with an actual sound on it. When you look at the little grid on the drum rack that represents all of the zones, you should see them light up orange as you're hitting notes on the controller. I typically put a midi transpose before the drum rack to help me hit the right zones with my drum pads
