To the man who has occasioned many a long night dreaming of meandering dungeons, obscure relics and custom-made baddies. Rest in peace.

I saw this yesterday. I was a hardcore D&D nerd for years. It's a real loss for the gaming community, sad indeed.

I'll never forget the day I got EVERY major first edition AD&D book.
I discovered D&D through a neighborhood friend who had a few books and adventures; but when I found my much older brother had the motherload sitting in storage, I lied in my backyard all day waiting for him to drop it off. It was one of those times in life where the realization of the event was far greater than its expectation. I got Deities and Demigods, Fiend Folio...everything...in one drop-off.
It would be years before I payed attention in a classroom.

My only experience was the "gold box" computer games, but that got me thinking about how many role playing video games his creation inspired in 26 years. He lives on through all of them.

In elementary school I had a friend with an IBM that I played Pools of Radiance on. I spent a lot of time over there. Later, I played AD&D with some guys in jr. high. I had just moved to a new city and school and on the first day a big friendly nerd came up during lunch, asked if I wanted to sit with his crew and asked if I played D&D. I gave it a shot and soon enough had a set of friends in this new town.
I still play Neverwinter Nights occasionally to get my D&D fix. RPGs have always been my favorite game genre and probably are a huge influence on my music.

I'll never forget my friend's campaign where we were fighting an evil undead overlord. Lasted for years and saw our Paladin pull one too many cards from the Deck of Many Things. He was banished to Limbo. As far as I recall, we were trying to kill teh bad guy in order to acquire his Ring of Spell Turning. Such selfish motivations....

Yeah I rocked one of those felt bags wih the crystal dice back in the day. Thanks to Gary Gygax, I have cherished memories of summers in Ohio, riding my dirt bike to the grocery store to play Defender, then heading over to my friends to venture into the Keep on the Borderlands
Hopefully, he left this world without regrets. I went to his website once and read about all the nastiness of his company going down the tubes and being taken over by greedy selfish people and stuff. There are always 2 sides to every story but it really sounded to me like Gary Gygax was a guy with some great ideas who wasn't the world's best businessman and as a result got the shaft

I love playing D&D from time to time. We had some great campaigns last summer. It is a truly geeky/communal experience to sit down with some sort of pizza-type snack, some cola, and a bag of dice and be taken away on some crazy adventure. That games, and the many like it, really bring out the creative side in a lot of people who would otherwise be afraid to be creative. Put it in the context of a game, and peoples' imagination kicks back in. Truly a sad passing. I believe that people will go on celebrating what he started every time they roll those dice. I love my d12.
