I miss our old d and d games. I always played with the same group...all of us got really into it... one of our friends spoke in his normal voice as his character (a vocabulary not entirely unlike jay muse) I just remember the puzzled looks from the dm when he announced what his character said. still makes me laugh.
wow my heart sank with the sense of loss surrounding gygax and my childhood. in both instances there won't be another.

rest in peace
imagine all the imagination this guy has engendered through his games
people slipping into worlds through both his game mechanics and rich
background detail

for me, ad&d was always more about hanging out with friends. i grew up in a beach town that was absolutely dead in the winter and my friends and i would either go play in the woods or play an RPG. we all live to far apart to get back together and get a game going, but we have, for years, talked about how much fun it would be to play again. even to the point of trying to figure out a way to do it over the internet. but part of the fun of it for me was sitting in a room with your friends. i kind of need that again. a few weeks ago i took out my dice and set the beside the TV. one of these days i will start playing again.
...and how much fun is it when your GM has an indepth campaign worked out and you are able to completely mess it up? hilarious.
thanks, gary gygax, for some fond childhood memories.

I always thought D&D was a great idea... but the concept of the dungeon master always struck me as ridiculous (too unpredictable) - so I never played. It's great to know that so many people have (and continue to have) great social and imaginative experiences with it.
@ cbit: that's hilarious.
