this news made me incredibly sad, but i am glad he lived so long. the Rama series is one of the most influential collections i've ever read. i read Rendezvous with Rama for the first time at age 10 and a lot of it was over my head, but the imagery still feels like a memory of something real.

I can't recall when I read Rama, but it could have been just before high-school... then, nearly 15 years later I re-read it, and all the series that followed. I was spellbound. Yeah... it made me sad to know he'd passed away - but happy in the knowledge he left such a lasting and positive legacy. Speaking of Rama, check out this rendered homage: Video

oops - Rama Homage and this

crap. why can I never seem to post a link properly. just look up Rama and Clarke on youtube and you'll find some interesting stuff. One's a beautiful fly-through of the Rama, the other is a CGI 'film' a student made - dark and very impressive.
