--> I went to my friend Christian's after work for a cup of tea and a catch up, when we heard the sound of a crash outside. He lives on a busy one way system in Surrey Docks [Surrey Quays if you use the gentrified name] and said with complete unsurprise, "its only a crash - they happen all the time".

We tried looking outside but couldnt see anything but when I looked left, up towards the station, there was a bus planted into the front of some flats.

It seems a 188 had just pulled out of the bus station and then mounted the kerb, narrowly missing a girl [who was on the ground when we got there, surrounded by a huge crowd, in complete shock] and smashed into the flats.

There was no fatalities [thank feck] but I can imagine that traffic began to gridlock around south east and east london. I had to walk to Deptford to get the DLR home - rather than get the tube back to London Bridge and then catch a train.

Heres some photos but the quality sucks as its from my Blackberry which resides in my pocket for 99% of the time, so has a great collection of pocket fluff in the lens, plus its only about 1.7megapixels and it was dark.

The final pic is of a chinese take away just down the road

BBC news has now reported the story: link

How did the driver manage to crash like that? Was he just aiming randomly ?

Ive no idea. When my friend and I got down to the bus, everyone had got off and I couldnt see the driver. Later, when I went to go home, the area had lots of police and I asked one if the driver had a heart attack or passed out but he said he didnt know [he was only lowly constable there for crowd control] but there was no fatalities.

On this map, link , the bus comes out of Redriff Road and then goes along Lower Road, heading south east [its a one way street] but the bus turned left, went for about 40 yards and then decided to turn left again.

house 0 - public transport 1

There is a busy junction right outside my window, and I've seen a couple of crashes. Last year some guy had a heart attack and died and his car continued across several lanes of traffic and went in under a (stationary) truck. Luckily no one was hurt.

wowzers, must have been one exciting bus ride!

mmm chinese takeout yum dumplings

For Let: one flat, really close to bus line.

Nice crash! High Five! I once saw a compact car sliding upside down on the street in front of my house. Apparently it was driving pretty fast and hit a trailer with it's right tire, flipping the car and it just slid down the road in the right lane. One of the best crashes I witnessed. The other one being a cop driving head-on into a red neck pick-up truck at the grocery store I worked at. That was a good-un.

I hate car crashes. Hate cars too. It just seems crazy to be driving around in a speeding massive collection of hard metal. I'm always afraid I will kill somebody or somebody will kill me.

and this just in from Glasgow - head on collision!
Ooof!
