if your name was steakmutt, he would have eaten you for such a rude comment.

would a small laptop with *blank* software count??? :P

(/me ducks)

Ooh. Rjtuna, the DX100 was a good one.

The SH-101 needs to make the list of battery-powered awesomeness.

And the TR-505 is fun even though everyone I've ever talked to hates it. I will cover Kate Bush's "Mother Stands For Comfort" all alone and on the go. :P

Bhajis Loops is amazing - i am still finding new features after 18 months of intense use. i cannot recommend this app enough!!

i also have a QY-70 which is also great. you can use the onboard keys to tap out rhythms, melodies and then edit it all MIDI. there's a bit of a learning curve dealing with MIDI on a small screen with limited controls, but it's worth it

drewzle, is there a decent wave editor for Palm?
also can you recommend a palm unit with an SD slot that runs off AAs, is good for bhajis and is fairly cheap (whoa, pretty tall order there)?

on the QY70 tip, here's the site I nabbed the title pic from - good read:

kinda makes me want one. the guy's mixdown process sounds like a huge pain in the ass. his frustrations seem to parallel those that I had with the RY30, though I imagine such a convenient tool makes one more forgiving.

pushing the pig:

lgpt, works like lsdj, except you can run samples through it and control midi instruments, totally freeking awesome, moments away from version 1.0, but stable as hell.

oh, you already said that in the introductory post. I just need to make sure that everyone hears it loud and clear.

lol... um, haha...

Ryan and I have a mutual understanding about fatness

he can't eat me because I already ate him

why do people hate the 505????

I think cause the 505 doesn't have editable sounds, it doesn't have volume knobs or sliders for the individual sounds, and it only has L and R outs.

My perspective is tainted by it being my first hardware drum machine, but I like its simplicity. It was really nice to have it (running on batteries) to take to family stuff and just hide out, downstairs making patterns rather than... like... spending time with family.

(And - totally OT from the portable/battery discussion - running it through an Electro-Harmonix Microsynth is super fun.)

the 505 actually seems really sweet. I understand it's the same, er, engine, as the 626 which I have been missing since it mysteriously disappeared - I never used those extra outs anyway.

zach, did/do you like using it by itself? I concur about running drum machines through bass synths, it's so fun to freak those things out. I also enjoyed running the 626 through a pitchshifter<->delay loop.
