I just remembered hearing about Madlib using one paired with a Boss SP-303 to sample /produce on the go."
The Numark PT-01 good reviews on it too. The guys on the SP-404 forums I used to frequent loved it.

AFAIK, while the 626 and 707it take AAs to power the memory, they don't run off batteries. No doubt an external battery box could be rigged up though.
I recently bought a korg kpr77 - I like it. Also boss dr110s are fun though they need mods to sync up to other gear. I really want an internal midi interface but it seems that Dtronics dont make them any more, or answer emails for that matter (hi fellas!)
