Went to see Meat Beat Manifesto play live in Portland a few days ago, the second stop of their tour.
Jack Dangers had two mac laptops, some other table-top gear I couldn't see, and a microphone. Lynn Farmer was on the drums, and Mark Pistel on the mixing board.
An unexpected treat was the 4th band member, Ben Stokes, of DHS (Dimensional Holophonic Sound). I don't know many people that have heard of DHS, but I picked up the album "The Difference Between Noise and Music" in the early 90s, and it's still awesome. It's extreme cut-and-paste house music, techno, acid, with tons of sudden start stops of noise and mayhem.
The MBM set was a mix of newer stuff, interspersed with really old songs like "God OD" and "Helter Skelter".
They also played a Tino flavored cut that was ALL about letting the drummer shine brightly.
The last two songs were DHS tracks, including "The House of God" that put DHS on the radar way back in the day.

one of the best lives shows i saw was a warehouse party where jack dangers & ben stokes played. they had great vj'ing with their set and they were just plain good. too bad i was way to fucked up to remember most of the details

I mentioned it in another blog, but I attended this show. Seemed like most of it was pre-recorded, but each member had something to contribute, and hearing all the MBM classics and seeing them synced to video was still great. AFAIK, Jack and Ben were both playing Kaos pads. Nice pics.

Holy crap I can't believe I missed this show! Storm the Studio was light years ahead of it's time and I've always been in awe of Dangers' ability to combine his influences into original music.
Fifty dollars or more..
