--> Two recent CD purchases

I was in a CD shop in Hanoi last week (he says, casually) and I found a dubious copy of Terry Riley's Rainbow in Curved Air for 30,000 Dong ($AUS1 is worth about 15000 Vietnamese Dong so I paid about $2.00)

This is the record that Pete Townsend had on his player before he wrote Won't get fooled again and Baba O'Riley (Terry Riley / Baba O'Riley.... did you spot it?)

And apparently it's the record that Phillip Glass and Steve Reich listened to and said "Jeez, that's a good idea... I reckon I could do that."

Interesting music. Not sure that it's a record I'll go back to a lot the way "In C" is, but a really important bit of music historically and really worth hearing.

Today I bought the February edition of MOJO magazine (I don't usually buy it, but I saw the CD on the front)

It's a CD of electronica and it has some interesting bits and pieces on it:

The Human League - Circus of Death
Gary Numan/Tubeway Army - Down In The Park
The Knife - Silent Shout
Fujiya & Miyagi - Ankle Injuries
Matthew Dear - Fleece On Brain
John Foxx - Burning Car
Arthur Russell - Place I Know / Kid Like You
Xela - Afraid Of Monsters
Tangerine Dream - Rubycon (Part One)
Clouddead - Dead Dogs Two (Boards Of Canada Remix)
Severed Heads - Dead Eyes Opened
Farley Jackmaster Funk - The Acid Life
The Peppers - Pepper Box
The Gentle Rain - Plastic Man
The Sounds Of Tomorrow - Space Child

There's stuff here I've never heard of (Farley Jackmaster Funk) Stuff I haven't heard for years (Severed Heads) and stuff I was hoping to never hear again (Gary Numan)

I can't hel[ feeling that should be wearing a black skivvy and a black trench coat and sunglasses and be using words like "seminal influence" when I listen to it, but it's pretty interesting.

stuff I was hoping to never hear again (Gary Numan)

Haha...not a fan of DITP? It is a very dour tune and not one Im too into from that time but apparently, a favourite for many when he plays live.

booooooh!
down in the park is actually pretty awesome!

ive recently (last 6 months?) heard some really excellent old farley jackmaster funk mixes

Down in the Park - it's the lyrics not the music -- all that stuff about the ra pe machines and the chant is death death death. Well, it's a bit over the top whenever I hear those sci fi lyrics I can't help feeling Bowie did it first and better. Are friends electric and Cars i like though.

Astro: 'Everyday I Die' beats DITP for me.

I'd buy that just for Dead Dogs Two...

lots of great numan songs - I like DITP a lot - there are better though. i have to be in the mood to pull one of his out these days, though.

dong comes cheap in vietnam, astroid should go there instead of prowling the streets of la for dong.

dead eyes open and the acid life are great cuts. Haven't listened to Numan for many years. About 11 years ago I had a big numan phase
I havent bought a CD in a very long time, I cant remember when, at least 8 months. I think it was a Lee Perry set
the reason being I'm just buyinga lot less of everything

lol @ dong jokes, even though I should know better

I bought some blank CDs a few weeks ago, for eh, backups.

where is he?
