I edit on the daily, but want to start shooting some stuff myself. I just got finished knocking together a diy depth of field adapter so I can dump slr lenses on my camcorder. So here is a little clip I shot trying create interesting elements with no post processing.

is this interesting? does it possess any film'esque qualities? if it sucks, just tell me. ;)

beautiful
been meaning to build a dof adapter for my hv20, how challenging did you find it? What are you using to pull focus?

Looks great, but you can sorta see the screen grain--which isn't very filmish. I like the shot though.

exquisite. Who cares if it's filmish. It's wonderful. Definitely didn't remind me at all of video.
does your camera have a removable lens? Is that how you do this? My hvx200 doesn't have a removable lens but I'd love to be able to experiment in a similar way. Is that possible?
Again, it's really exquisite.

Fredo -- google "dof adapter" to learn more about what he did, specifically "hv30 dof adapter." They're great, because you can swap out standard slr lenses.
His camera does not have a removable lens; the SLR lenses are overlaid onto the built-in lens via the adapter.

Thanks ya'll!
@tantan and those wondering about dof adapters.. It really wasn't difficult at all because I opted for parts that just screw together vs. all that gluing nonsense. Also, I chose to make it static because I wanted it as small as possible (guerilla style) even if there is more grain. I can assemble the thing in about 5 minutes. Only scarry part was talking apart the hv30 to mount a toggle so I could flip the screen as these adapters makes everything inverted. Not necessary, but makes shooting a lot easier. Beyond that, I'm pulling the focus via the lens. It's a 50mm Nikon 1.4. You need a decently fast lens... this thing eats light.
@everyone, muchas thanks! sometimes we all need a little encouragement. hehe.

beautiful.
i agree with fredo, it's not necessarily filmish, but who cares. a little to sharp for the film look. but striving for the filmish quality is passe... strive for the early video quality if anything.
love the shot, think it's perfect as is.

well, there's filmish and there's cinematic -- it doesn't look like it was shot on film, but it looks cinematic in that it doesn't have the flat sharp look that camcorders typically produce. I assume that's what you're after, not something that looks like it was actually captured on film?

tantan, I just shot you a msg.
these dof adapters kinda spin things in a different direction visually. It's more like neither. It's not film, it's not pristine hd video. i think i just wanted something to evokes some kinda response in people. it's like a synth that isn't A or B, it's C. so ya'll are right, the format doesn't matter... as long as the tool can assist in completing the idea. i think it did a pretty good job. so yeah, i think i worded the topic wrong. hehe.

"In this you can observe the bokeh and grain from the optosigma gg's" what does this mean?
