Tenori-On

it is like a monome, except it is made for holding in your hand and dancing around like an oaf with it.
'cause you can hold it in your hand!

they are totally different. and if anything the monome is a ripoff of the tenori-on.

wikpedia sez
Tenori-on was demonstrated at the NIME 2006 conference held at IRCAM, Centre Pompidou in Paris, France in June, 2006.

The (monome) 40h was released on May 1, 2006, though units were available in person at the release party at Asphodel and Maker Faire.

The magazine launched a public annual event to "celebrate arts, crafts, engineering, science projects and the Do-It-Yourself (DIY) mindset." Called the "Maker Faire," the first was held April 22 – 23, 2006 at the San Mateo Fairgrounds.

monome wins, by a couple of months. Glowly gbuttony grids must have been 'in the air'.

the monome pre dates the tenori-on for sure.. why because, i remember seen videos of this interface from before it was called monome.
Second the step sequence pre-dates both.

yeah brian crabtree had made the big huge old monome prototype and daedelus had been using it live for a long time before the first monome 40hs went on sale. it was just called the box or something vague back then. back before monome had a name or a site or that first video that made me want one sooo much.

who cares what came out when.. they are not the same thing.

hahah monome a ripoff of tenori on.

was that a joke?

Exactly.

Monome = elegant controller for Max & PD types
Tenori-on = sequencer/pop art object

yeah, and he proved that even if you have the latest toy on the market that you can still suck.

i hate that tonorri thing. tried to use it twice in shops and it don't fking work.

I realised only yesterday that I'd been pronouncing Monome incorrectly. So it's not mono-mee, but comes from some sort of maths term.

But just to add to the debate: Tenori = bollocks. The buttons are teency.
