the applecare plan is totally worth it. mandatory i think.

My advice on Applecare is to buy it 1 month before the standard warranty is set to expire. That way if you puke on the computer or throw it out the window or do something else not covered by warranty and it gets trashed before the end of the first year, you aren't out ~$250 for a support program you'll never need to use.

extended warranties are bogus, i'm guessing for a 3 year plan you spent at least $300. my last used ibook was a total of $314. in the 18 years i've dealt with owning apple computers and talked to friends who have them, all the problems people ever had were annouced by apple as manufactured flaws and the owners of those batches had an option to get it fixed free. not that fixing your apple is hard. i thinker inside mine all the time.
when people use clones they get hard wired to think about computers diffrent. they train themselves to expect their clones to break down in a few months of little over a year.most clone users never expeirence using an apple operating system with its logical and intuitive workflow. what used to take hours of futile attempts on a clone, now will be effortless for you. seriously get used to lighting fast boot up speeds, audio software actually up to industry standards, hardware that is superior to clones in every way for decades, and not to mention you join the elite class of people who choose to use the best personal computers availble on earth.

Congrats on buying your first Mac. you will soon receive in the mail an official Mac owner's kit including the following:

1) black turtleneck
2) overall sense of superiority
3) sense of child-like wonder

Thank you for buying Apple.

try not to load that baby up with software before knowing how to use the OS. put in at least a week of daily learning before you attempt anything. just stick to the itunes, firefox, and classy screensavers for a while. ever since os10 apple has made it easy for a new user to wreck stuff.have to know what directories to leave alone, and what can be modified or deleted. have fun

that fucking mouse. apple makes a great os, and great computers, but oy veh they cannot design mice or keyboards worth a shit.

the apple mighty mouse blows.

i think the applecare is a good idea. i've had ipods die and i know people who have had random flaws in their laptop or desktop machines. bad fans, bad mother boards etc or the odd bad FW or USB port. so... to me that makes it worth it. hell if one semi expensive thing goes wrong you have some insurance and the applecare basically pays for itself.

whatever.. not like it's an issue since you already purchased the applecare.
i get my new macbook pro any day now... with applecare.

i totally recommend extended warranties- although otterfans idea is good. i've bought 2 laptops, one had the dvd drive die (18 months in), and one had the screen die (3 months in), and both were replaced for free.

i recomend using the money you saved by not buying car insurance for your computer and buy yourself a cheap ibook. i broke the shit out of one of my ibooks it was a 900 g3 with dvdplayer & 14inch bitch, i got to have and use it for a little under a year before i broke the tv.so i gave it to a friend who is a pothead and of course he took it apart like a curious child.the moral is it cost me $400 to have a cool ibook for about a year, cheaper than a lease.

awesome. cant wait. i guess the black frame glasses cost extra.

im glad i bought the care plan now. thanks guys.

not to start a pc vs mac battle/argument/whatever, but for us PC users afraid of Vista installed new laptops thinking of moving to mac, there's is hope, and really good hope too: look up Sager laptops. you can order them without OS installed or with a choice of XP or Vista. i'm getting one from pctorque.com. and Sager laptops are top notch at good value.
