I thought that I'd be in to Bola so I got the newest album. And I was really disappointed. The whole thing was a barely passable conglomeration of 90s production cliches. Compositionally, it's also pretty vacuous. I would hope that Bola's older stuff is better.
I want to find that long lost second Plone album!

Actually, when I say people sound like bola, it's a specific song that I mean. "Forcasa3" on Soup - which is a perfect little melodic electro track.

to my ears a lot of the Bola stuff sounds..... tired. But Soup is amazing, especially the first side. I still listen to that all the time. I like his production skills too.

always hated the prodigy and the chemical brothers and that beer-guzzlin' 'big beat sound' of the 90ies
never liked chiptunes either, cute as it may be, the sounds are just too gnarly for me
also thought daft punk was soooo overrated and very unoriginal (dj sneak discoloops anyone?)

EXACTLY. At least contrived genres of the past were enjoyable on the surface (Italo Disco, Thrash Metal. etc) Now it's just replaced with false-nostolgia mixed with a fear of being labeled.
There's really no particular "sound" I hate... just music that lacks any soul and thinks that makes it more "powerful" as a statement. That goes for any genre really. From cutesy IDM pop to noise.

Now the today's answer for fun is Girl Talk and Dan Deacon? I don't buy it. I never was too into the Chicken Dance and being "forced" to have fun. EVERYBODY SCREAAAAMMM!! yeah ... never bought that.... yet I'm usually that "dancing guy over there"...
