tenori on disapointing

--> yeah. the title say all.

i was in a big electronic festival in Lyon, and there was a tenori-on.

so i got my fingers on it, and i was quite disapointed: it's small, too small, and it also looks really cheap, all in plastic.

even if the leds blinking are nice to watch, it looks more like a child toy than a revolutionnary musical instrument !

the sound is weak, and i was bored after 3 minutes of playing with it.

this confirms what i was thinking: monome with max/msp or pd is surely better than that expensive piece of gear.

it's my opinion only for sure.

i was disappointed by it too. overpriced for what it does and doesn't do. it's like a $1000 Nintendo DS that only plays Elektro Plankton. i hope Yamaha revamps it in the very near future and makes an incredible machine out of it. but i have no faith in that happening, and most likely the Tenori-On will disappear into oblivion...

people were disappointed by the tb-303 in the beginning too

maybe there is some quirk to the tenori yet to be discovered. maybe not

if it had 128MB for samples and a JJOS then it'd be dope . maybe a multi-pin connector for a breakout box for multiple outputs. the AWM synth engine is TIRED but they are probably hoping this becomes some kind of 'gadget' that people pick up like they would a video game or iphone so they need something in there for people who aren't interested in sampling. it seems a little pricey for that though.

i applaud them for launching it. i wonder if it will make money for them? i doubt it.

yeah maybe. and hopefully they get discovered soon enough so that it doesn't become a financial disappointment. i don't know, maybe if i owned one i could make some pretty neat sequences with, even full tracks, and so would a lot of people here and all around. the price prevents me from owning one and discovering it's full potentials. it has nice cute sounds and chipy sounding drums, as well as GM sounding instruments and drum kits. but nothing you can't get anywhere else. the sounds are not editable. it loads samples but the have to of a certain length i think. it's pretty cool as a performance instruments...
i mean one can make anything work to their advantage with a little extra work. but for me, i don't think i want to spend the money and dedicate the time...

i knew this thing would suck when even xlr8r gave it a bad review. they love everything.

monome with max/msp isn't exactly cheap...
