--> maybe you've read my blog about my return to france after nearly 1 year in australia.

i was sad, and it took me a while to get used to shitty france.

it's been better for a month or so, and i'd found a new dream, a new purpose: getting a green card to work in the USA and spend a long time there maybe.

and i just learnt that i missed the Lottery...

so next year... but France looks shittier and shittier every day now.

so i'm sad again.

europe's bias is different... the general population seems to care more about nationalism than race.

p.s. in addition to being a stupid american i'm a swiss citizen too... jchot's host family's behavior is totally normal. we have to protect our chocolate and cheese from those sneaky immigrants

I hate to be the conservative blowhard of this thread, but socialism is the reason france is having so much trouble."

you just have to look at things like the aztlan movement to know that white people are no longer the most racist demographic in America. comparitively, i think we're actually pretty damn accepting at the moment.

There's an interestingly transparent quality to American racism, at least in very diverse regions / cities, that in many respects I think is more healthy. The NorthWest tends to cloak its racist tendencies in well-meaning but naive liberal posturing.

I sometimes laugh at the image of little neighborhood kids calling for Hitler to come and eat his dinner. Truly horrifying, but funny in its own way.

Immigration has been a complete fucking non-issue for centuries - its just an excuse by small minded people to try use in trying to control weak minded fools.

The only truth in that sentence is that you are a conservative blowhard. And I dont think you hate it at all.

This sir, is one of the most astute things I have read for a while. Im really looking forward to the opportunity of hanging out with you next week.

Nationalism, religion, and race are completely intertwined in a complex manner all throughout the world that leaves the peoples of most of the world not necessarily racist, until you cross their border. Then your race becomes an instant identifier as "immigrant."
France did have some pretty awful race riots not long ago, and continues to fight civil rights cases with muslims over EVERYTHING.
My trip to Portland was interesting, because race was a much different entity there than here.

what's all this racism fuss about? marathons are the shit! triathalons too, imho. chiillll!

I STARTED IT! YAY!
Its a very generalised statement considering that everywhere in europe is 'having troubles partially due to racial tensions'.

Russia seems to be in some sort of neo-nazi meltdown, if all reports are to be taken at face value.

of course its generalized.

everything must be generalized to a degree when having a conversation over the internet, lest you want a two page essay on the fall of paris.

I agree though, Europe is not having a fun time right now w/ the multiculturalism.

but maybe its for the best. if i vacation to England i want to meet plenty of pint-for-lunch, stinky-breath, spit-food-when-they-talk englanders. the dirtiest seediest kind. likwise, if you com to Texas, you'd expect a crotch-grabbing, tobacco-spitting, consonant-rolling cowboy to greet you off the plane. that makes life fun for me.

well they're not making it much fun for me...
You learn to really see the world in a different light when you work with the public on the scale I have teaching this past semester.

i think scotland deals pretty well with racial tensions.
every so often you hear about an isolated drunken scot punching an englishman after a football match and its in the paper for WEEKS.

i work in the southwest of Glasgow, in the community, theres been a HUGE influx of immigrants from all over the world.
and as far as i can tell theres been no "WHITES ONLY" signs going up.
most Glaswegians are good humored and friendly.
the big problem in Glasgow is still sectarian violence between youth gangs.

saying that, however I've had racial abuse before from other white people!!

sometimes i grow a beard, and i tan well in the summer...as a result ive been called "AN ETHNIC BASTARD"
but that was in Dundee, and they're all fucking mad up there anyway.
