There are so many feelings that are linked to deep musical ideas in my head, but i cannot get them out. There forever lost due to the lack of my non-existent musical ear and the inability to translate them.
I dream of music in my sleep and my waking hours.
I will now try again to compose an idea sitting in front of the keyboard
please, listen to my dear friend.

stop fucking around on a keyboard and sing/humm into microphones then.
THEN try to take that and make it into notes and music.
or maybe you're using the wrong medium. I myself prefer magazines, glue, scissors and colored pencils.

you know, I have had this same problem lately. I have this one unfinished thing stuck in my head and I have some ideas for it but they never seem to work quite right.

the best thing for me has been walking for an hour each day, working it out in my brain, and then coming home and making myself figure it out on an instrument.

I use my phone for this frequently. My phone lets me record "voice notes", which I scream melodies into. I get some odd looks when I appear to be beatboxing into my phone, but I thank myself later. Also, I try to make a note of the type of sound I have in mind. Keeps me on track. Keeps me working.

astroid I thought that scooping shit was integral to your compositional process
yes recording yourself humming ideas is brilliant, do try this!
Also this sounds bad but it works -- zero in on some tracks that you really really love by other people that do some of the things you want to do, then set out to copy them! In the process, you may transform it into something original and satisfying.

This works surprisingly well. So much of what I have made started out just like this. Also regarding the humming/singing thing. I'm working on a song now that is completely made up of sounds I made like this. Record myself into the sp-404 then mangle the shit out of it, or even better actually try and coax a melody from it. I like the limits it places on you.

There's nothing wrong with that imo, that's just taking inspiration a step further...It's not plagiarism if you don't release it.A lot will be gained from an exercise like that as well. The recording ideas is a great one.
Here's another, get yourself a decent hw synth designing those sounds.I was a long time looknig for a synth with which i could create the sounds in my head.I triead all manner of sw and hw.Some came close but werent quite there so i was still frustrated.Make sure it can create the sounds thst ar i your head, thats th most important thing, whether it's a virus or a nord lead or a micromodular or whatever, imo you need something with which to create those sounds in your head, otherwise you'll still have the same issues.

learning... noone said it would be easy! :P
I get frustrated too,
but when i look back to what I was working on last month, I see the improvement, and know that eventually I will get there.

The music in my head has nothing to do with the music i create. The music in my head is just the most amazing radio station eva!

the problem i have with translating sounds in my head to real sounds is that i think of complex multi layered techno where timbre and timing are what make it so im not really think of a few melodic notes i can remember then play/program later
even if i can keep the same sounds in my head as soon as i begin to program something all connection with the sound i was thinking of is lost and i can only think of the sound ive got now
so its pretty futile
